Nicole replied to the topic Can the elastic be omitted, for a "tent" dress? in the forum oliver + s: croquet 10 years ago
Absolutely Rebecca.
I would lay the bodice with the skirt and cut as one piece.
I have a tute here if you would like an idea of how it goes together.http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/you-cant-make-that-pattern-up-in-that.html

I’m looking for a pattern I can covert to a simple a-line/tent dress…I like the lines on the top of the croquet, but wouldn’t want the drop-waist. To any who have made it or have the pattern, is it designed that I could skip the elastic waist? Or another pattern you’d recommend? (I’m looking for super simple, straight lines, no curves, or extra b…[Read more]

I agree Rebecca
My 6 year old measures a 2! -
rebecca replied to the topic Alterations: How to lower front waistband (& keep back high), w/o changing hem grain line? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
Awesome. I did just do a full measurement, and she’s a solid 2″ lower in the front. Her front rise is only 6″, and her back rise is 8″.

Thanks, y’all. I just measured and she’s a 2 for pants and a spot-on 4 for tops. Perhaps sticking with 4s for now, and sewing slightly narrower seam allowances as she grows will be best. With that big of a span between pants and tops, buying size 5+ for patterns with tops/pants would be useless!

My hubby loves a baggy shirt!! That’s why he won’t let me buy them for him – apparently I get the wrong size.
Glad you were able to get some sewing done Trixie slept well.
Its weighing day here for little Miss Chloe and I have decided that should it be a huge increase, I will start drafting the next sizes in preparation. I am hoping not though…[Read more]

Fiber Club! 10 years agoyes, I just saw a pattern on knitty.com and when I read the designer works behind the scenes at Brooklyn tweed, I added it to the “safe” list. I do like Ann Budd, her sweater books have been extremely useful. But I don’t do sweaters any more. Her sock book is very good too, but I despite everyone’s warnings about how addictive they are, I only did…[Read more]

Do you mean organdy? I’m always terrified that the buttonholes will go wonky and completely ruin an expensive and beautiful project. Truth be told, I use a hand picked zipper for special things like this. It’s extremely strong, allows me the most control and I don’t have to worry about buttonholes ruining the fabric. It’s worth a little extra…[Read more]

I thought they were only for using when you designed your own patterns and you cut notches in the tissue! Are you saying they work to cut out notches in fabric?? If so, I am definitely getting some!

Hugo managed to get some rice cereal into trixie so she slept all evening instead of me feeding all evening
I got the trousers and skirt made and a Continental blouse made up to setting in the sleevesI prewashed some lawn to make another trial run for husbands Liberty shirt. He has lost weight so the last one is too baggy now
