Can the elastic be omitted, for a "tent" dress?

I’m looking for a pattern I can covert to a simple a-line/tent dress…I like the lines on the top of the croquet, but wouldn’t want the drop-waist. To any who have made it or have the pattern, is it designed that I could skip the elastic waist? Or another pattern you’d recommend? (I’m looking for super simple, straight lines, no curves, or extra bands/ruffles — very minimalist).

    Absolutely Rebecca.
I would lay the bodice with the skirt and cut as one piece.
I have a tute here if you would like an idea of how it goes together.

How about the Roller Skate dress? Eliminate the elastic waist; it may work for you.

The croquet as an a-line is quite quick to make. My daughter loves hers.
