@rebecca Fiona (@needlewoman2 ) has very kindly offered to send you her paper version for free (seriously, the envelope has writing on it which is why she’s offering it to you for free). Her computer is playing up at the mo otherwise she’d post the offer herself!
Given the IT probs she’s having, you might be able to message her on her flickr…[Read more]

Jacki replied to the topic Red riding hood pattern size M – can't get hood to line up right 🙁 in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 10 years ago
I know this post is a year old but it just helped me sew the hood for the little cape, so thank you! I’ve always pinned close to edge of fabric so rapt that I learned your tip of pinning on the seam line, what a difference! Cape coming along nicely. Can’t wait to finish it tomorrow.

I’m loving the idea of a mini city stroll skirt!
I spent the day with a friend making a pattern for a dress for her. She has some lovely vintage fabric with large yellow roses. She has chosen a fitted princess seamed bodice with pleated Aline skirt with 3/4 length sleeves. Thankfully the dress is one Ottobre pattern and the sleeves are…[Read more] -

beachmom replied to the topic Unwanted Fabric. What to do? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
I used to shop unwanted fabric around…asking sewing friends if they were interested, offering it to schools, posting it on freecycle and/or craigslist. But it involved a lot of effort and when I’m ready to get rid of something, I want it gone. Now I drop it off at our local thrift shop.;)

CNN had side-by-side pictures. George’s outfit was similar to William’s. Not the same, but an apparently deliberate homage.

Jacki replied to the topic Has anyone made the Red Riding Hood Cape in vertical striped fabric? in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 10 years ago
Thanks for that idea – I quite like the idea of the alternate vertical/horizontal look. Might give it a go, as you said, on paper first. (Another good idea!)

I haven’t seen it in a stripe at all that I can recall. Since the pieces are narrow at the top and wider at the bottom you will end up cutting your stripes on an angle. If you are then able to match them together you will effectively get chevrons at each seam.
I’d play with some miniaturised pattern pieces and striped paper first to see if you…[Read more] -

I have chosen a vertical striped fabric for the cape and wondering if I’ve made the right decision! Has anyone else made it in stripes? Do you have any photos? Is it possible to line up stripes at all in the seams, or is that an impossible task?

mkhs replied to the topic Sketchbook Shorts for Girls – Sizing? in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 10 years ago
My daughter has been more accepting of the sketchbook shorts in drapier fabrics– linen, and cotton/tencel twill. They are really my favorite shorts pattern, practical and comfortable. If your girl is wanting some “pretty”, lace hem tape can help.

I donate it, or use it for muslins or underlining.

Most thrift stores accept fabric. Just bag it up. Also, some towns have craft collectives–we have one in our neighborhood where they accept all used/new unwanted craft supplies and re-sell them at very low prices.
Other ideas…classrooms for art projects, preschools, chuch groups, quilt guilds.
Or ask us here in the forums–one sewer’s trash…[Read more]

Nicole Kaczorek replied to the topic Voile seam finishes in the forum oliver + s: roller skate 10 years ago
I have a question, too. I used a similar lining. Everything looked great on the top with wrong side to wrong side. However, the seams were facing upward on the skirt. So that if the lining show a bit it would be all rough edges. Is that your experience and why you were concerned about finishing the edges? Or did your raw edges also face up?

Did they save all of the special smocked things that William and Harry wore? I think I remember this ne one of them many years ago – through the eyes of a child. He is a beautiful looking child but then look at the parents!

Oh my, did you see the darling smocked outfit Prince George wore to Princess Charlotte’s christening. So sweet.

Sarvi, I wanted to say a big thank you for the link you provided to Jones and Vandermeer. As T said, they have sell some great prints, and I was especially pleased to see their notions’ section. Very keen to try some purses – well, sort of- and J and V sell the frames you need to attach the fabric, and close the purse.
Suggestions like these are…[Read more]
