Great patternI have made both the polo and the sweatpants for my toddler. The polo is a very satisfying project and the end result looks so smart. The pants are a great quick sew. Thanks for making great patterns for boys too!!4 of 4 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Fashionable sweatpantsI made two pairs of size 5 sweatpants for my 4 year-old grandson who is in the upper percentile of height for his age. The pants are a perfect fit. They look fashionable and the instructions were very easy to follow.2 of 2 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Great Polo ShirtI received a lot of compliments when my daughter wears this shirt. As usual, the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I used stretch stitch in my regular sewing machine and the result is just like store bought polo shirt. Love it!3 of 3 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Wonderful sweatpantsI have yet to make the polo shirt, but I'm on pair 3 of the sweatpants, and I love them. They're a quick sew, especially on a serger (and especially if you leave out the drawstring). As another reviewer mentioned, they are a very slim fit, but that's perfect for my toddler - bulk gets in his way while walking. The rise is maybe just a bit low for someone still in diapers - I would guess that these wouldn't work well for the cloth-diapering set without some adjustment.1 of 1 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Real polo shirtFirst of all, I LOVE all Oliver and S patterns- for boys. I have bought every one, I think. The best part, of course is the styling. There is no better look in any pattern company. That being said, the polo shirt has one challenge that I think only is a challenge in the smaller sizes. It involves the addition of the placket in the center front seam(rather offset to one side or the other depending on boy or girl). After making 4 of these shirts I finally figured out that if you pull up on the stay stitching a bit- it's knit so it can "mush" a bit without gathering- it works. I get more compliments ( or my grandson and his mom) on this than any other outfit he has- with the exception of the cargo pants which I love even more. I can't say enough good things about the directions, the pattern printouts( which I actually prefer) and the graciousness of Liesl. The sizing i find to be quite accurate and I love the fact that they aren't super wide which I often find with the big company commercial patterns. Besides all that, I love the packaging. This is a pattern that I will make more and more of until this boy goes to college!!2 of 2 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Smart looking track pants, though on the slim sideI bought the patterns for the track pants. I love how a simple stripe down each side makes a big difference in the overall look. It gives a sporty smart edge.
But I do find the cut on the slimmer side. My 12 years old takes a slim size in most clothing, and I usually have a hard time finding clothes for him. For this pants pattern, I have to ADD an inch to all front and back panel to sew it up so he doesn't look like he is wearing long underpants! It was a very simple alteration though, so no big deal here:)
I know that nowadays, clothes are getting slimmer cut, even for track pants.... A look at other sewing patterns says it all. Those tapered towards the legs are not very flattering on most people. So I am still very happy to find Oliver + S straighter leg pants. Please consider making it in bigger sizes, for Tweens and teens! I am sure adults wouldn't mind this pattern for them too:)2 of 2 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful? -
Errata
We have had a couple queries about the first printing of the Parachute Polo. As it turns out, there is a little issue with the pattern that is throwing people off. This issue only applies to the paper version of the pattern. If you have the digital version this errata notice is not applicable to you.
If you’ve already sewed the placket and cut out the collar, no worries. It will still work the way it’s done in the original pattern. I would suggest pinning the front collar first, and as you pin toward the center back, the notches will be offset by about 1/4". You may need to ease in the neckline a bit, but it will go together and will look fine when it’s done.
But if you haven’t cut your fabric yet, here’s a fix that will make the placket easier. Move the dot and placket cut line toward the side seam by 1/4". Use this dot and cut line instead of the original placement on the pattern piece. And to compensate for the placket placement change, extend the center-back collar cut-on-fold line out by 1/4" and move the shoulder notch over by 1/4" as well. See the red lines in the diagrams below for further clarification. These changes should eliminate any confusion and will give you perfect results!
Determining Which Printing You Have
As errata are discovered, they are marked for correction in subsequent printings of the pattern. To determine which printing of an instruction sheet or pattern sheet you have, look at the copyright box which appears on each. Toward the bottom of the box, there is a series of numbers.
The lowest number you see there indicates which printing you have. For example, if the lowest number in the box on the instruction sheet is "2," you have an instruction sheet from the second printing. Any errors in the instructions mentioned for the first printing have been corrected in your version. If the lowest number in the box on the pattern sheet is "1," you have a copy of the pattern sheet from the first printing.
Pattern sheets and instructions sheets can be printed separately, so be sure to check the errata notices for pattern pieces against the printing number on the pattern sheet and errata notices for instructions against the printing number on the instruction sheet.
