I’d love a slip pattern, although I can think of two or three existing patterns that would be dead easy to convert.
How about nightgown/robe?

I make this for my girl and find I often have a little volume at the top of the sleeve cap (maybe I am stretching it while I sew, or cutting inaccurately) and I like to put in a little pleat or gathers. It’s not a lot. I add a bit of length and might size down just one size, now that she’s getting tall faster than she’s getting wide. She’s five…[Read more]

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! I hadn’t thought about the buttoning. I wanted to give gathering instead of pleating a shot. I am just so excited she agreed, haha:)

As Nicole said, remembering to change the buttoning side should be all it needs. I wonder if it would be nice at the back to gather the section that is normally an inverted box pleat. The box pleat is quite business shirt-like to my mind.

I’ve got another, slightly different way to avoid hand sewing which is shown here: http://bartacksandsingletrack.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/hats-galore-and-no-hand-sewing-tip.html
What makes the biggest difference to how it comes together is the amount that you’ve turned up the seam allowance on the lining crown. Being out by a little bit here makes…[Read more] -

I have swopped to glue sticks, far more durable.

You could swop the side that you button on but my girls happily wear Hugo’s hand-me-downs.
Lidia is wearing them now, that is the third child to have them. -

I would love something similar to the Gallery for my girls.

I have noticed a lot of button up shirts for girls in the shops lately, I would love to make one for my 10 yo (and she agreed!). Should I make any adjustments to make it more feminine, or leave as is?

Ok, I probably shouldn’t be sewing if this is confusing me: I’ve sewn the placket to the front. I’ve trimmed down the center. So now I”m at the part where I’m folding the placket to the wrong side of the garment. Should I have cut along the entire stitched length, or only to where the angled part you trim off after cutting hits the center…[Read more]

Gah, so I’m finally getting around to making one of these, I have the digital pattern. I think putting a little note about where these go would go a long way to clearing it up! (I”m making view b, so I was confused! LOL) Because technically, they both have “Snap plackets”….or at least, that’s what I was thinking….because you still use…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Elastic how long for size 7? in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 10 years ago
@miss_Sonja if you look at any pattern you should find body waist measurements for size 7. General rule of thumb is to cut the elastic one inch shorter than the waist measurement. Depends a lot on your elastic and your kid…
For my just turned 7 son who is quite lean I would cut about 22″. I think this is about 1.5″ less than the standard size 7…[Read more] -

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Drawstring pants? in the forum oliver + s: after-school 10 years ago
The Sandbox Pants have a drawstring like you’re describing, Emily. Maybe look at those instructions and convert them to the After School? It would certainly be do-able, and the elastic makes it possible to pull the pants on and off without untying…
