Janice, I’ve made 5 t-shirts in the past week for myself. Once you get the fit down, they’re quite addictive.
I’d like to make the Cinema and Bistro dresses.
And I’d like to continue exploring new fabrics.

I’m actually making something for ME – ok, it’s just a t-shirt, but it’s a start! I don’t wear dressy clothes for work generally, so if I can get a great fit on this t-shirt, I plan to make about 20. Come to find out, I must have some freakishly short arms….
My 5 year old got a sewing machine for Christmas, so she is working on a doll quilt.…[Read more]

I’m sure! I really, really appreciated the difference when I started sewing for myself. On tiny garments I didn’t mind doing finicky finishes but on an adult-sized garment that I hoped to wear in this lifetime, it was remarkable how much quicker it was. Good tools are such a pleasure to use.

Sarvi, you are going to love your serger once you get going with it! It will speed up your sewing because it finished seam allowances soooo much more quickly than the sewing machine. And of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This is great, Maggie! Would you have any interest in contributing a blog post about this idea? I think it would be really useful to other readers.

I think mine is supportive and proud, but that’s not the same as interested. Too bad, he’d be a great knitter.
This year I want to teach my two ‘students’ to knit cables. My MIL and a friend’s daughter both have asked for help with knitting and have taken off with it.
I want to make myself a Bistro dress and another Cinema dress from a…[Read more]

I am working madly to finish DD1’s Barbie house before Wednesday. Not a lot of sewing involved in that, but I did sew curtains for it yesterday (to string up on teeny curtain rods, so cute!). Once that is done I really need to finish the Playtime dress I cut out for her, oh, three months ago, before summer when it is too hot to wear it. All I…[Read more]

I can’t get past your first sentence!
One thing I know I won’t create is any interest in my sewing hobby from my husband!!
As for the rest, who knows, but I’m sure to have fun. (and I will insist on boring him by showing him anything I’m proud of, over, and over, and over again) -

Given that you have a bodice and skirt lining, how about this…
Sew the dress as per instructions with the zipper.
Sew the bodice lining to the skirt lining only.
Leave a basted area in the lining side seam where the zipper is.
Once it’s all constructed and the closed lining dress is hanging free inside the main dress, unpick the basted lining…[Read more] -

I am making this dress https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/16120786621/ for my cousin and as the voile is so light I have added a bemsilk skirt lining. The zipper is added after the skirt is attached so what I normally do in this case is treat the lining and main as one, the fabric is light enough that with some gentle pressing it works.

@mim22, thank you.
We had a scary and vigilant few days but the weather has broken now. We had a huge fire last year and lost a lot of fences, crops and sheds so we had cleared a lot of trees and scrubby undergrowth in anticipation.
My sister, who lives in the Adelaide Hills, was evacuated but her home was not burnt.I love sewing Liberty, I use…[Read more]
