Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Best O +S pattern to use to make jeans? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 11 years ago
@sayiamyou I LOVED those red skinny Sketchbook jeans of Nicole’s. They’re soooooo good.
I think almost any pattern can look jeans-ish if you use denim, an appropriate topstitching colour and do something jeans-esque to the back pocket. At least that’s my theory.
I was thinking maybe back pocket decoration might be a good idea for an Oliver + S…[Read more] -

I recently used the Sketchbook for jeans for my daughter: https://www.flickr.com/photos/79480359@N03/14699004800/
And After School for my son:https://www.flickr.com/photos/79480359@N03/8668350104/
But my all time favourites were made by mixing the After School back with a modified Field Trip front:…[Read more] -

I think Badminton would make a fantastic nightgown. Though I also have a Kwik Sew pattern that I love for nighties.

@sahmcolorado I think I will be doing this for my oldest girl too! She still takes a 2 or 3 width in the dress patterns but she needs 6 for length.
lol @Jess M. that is quite an impressive stack you have going!

Uhm I am about to embark on this. Though some patterns will be size 4 because we can still fit a few.
I think I may be a bit ambitious for this spring/summer.

I have some cute largish print fabric (dragons!) that DD loves and I want to make a nightgown with it—it’s woven fabric not knit/jersey. Any suggestions?? I’m thinking either swingset or a sleeveless 2+2 lengthened. Any other pattern suggestions?

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Marking the markings–argh!! in the forum off topic 11 years ago
I’ve gone right off cutting notches as sometimes the seam allowance is small and a vigorous notch could land me in trouble!
I make all markings with ceramic pencil (cloverline) about the only fabric it struggles with is fluffy wool or fleece.
To mark dots within the pattern I stick a pin through all layers, pattern tracing and fabrics and then…[Read more] -
Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Lining? in the forum oliver + s: family reunion 11 years ago
I may be lacking imagination (it’s early morning here) but my thoughts re the placket is that you can’t.
If you want the lining attached attached at the top but free at the bottom you’d need to make the placket only half length or have an almost separate under dress with it’s own placket. Both would be icky solutions I think.
How about underling…[Read more] -

I make holes in patterns with a machine needle. If the fabric isn’t too pressure I poke the needle all the way through the pattern and the fabric.

re: How do you get the punch to reach markings that are not on the edge of the pattern paper???
Linda, you can fold the paper to reach internal points. You’ll get two holes, but you can always tape over the one you don’t need. Also, I use a hole punch that I bought at a craft store that makes a very small hole. I tear off the part that catches…[Read more]

Fiber Club! 11 years agoTamara, that is exciting – and the answer of course is, “it depends.” In my most prolific (pre-kids) knitting days I could finish a hat in two days, and an adult sweater in two weeks. But I spent hours per day doing it. Now it takes me forever to finish anything – I may knit up to an hour a day when I am very smitten with a project (but I’ve…[Read more]
