The latest O+S blog post said “in a week or two.” That’s all I know 🙂

Fiber Club! 10 years agoTamara, that is exciting – and the answer of course is, “it depends.” In my most prolific (pre-kids) knitting days I could finish a hat in two days, and an adult sweater in two weeks. But I spent hours per day doing it. Now it takes me forever to finish anything – I may knit up to an hour a day when I am very smitten with a project (but I’ve…[Read more]

Fiber Club! 10 years agoOh, and I always take my swatch and measure in 3 different manners: 1: Unblocked
2: Steam Blocked
3: Washed/Dried (however I plan to care for it) -

Fiber Club! 10 years agoI always cast on 50 stitches and do 5 garter stitches on each end, and a few garter rows to begin with. When I cast off, it keeps my swatch from curling. Especially in Stockinette. I recently learned the value in swatching…usually I don’t mind, as I knit stuff for DD so if it’s bigger, well she can wear it longer or next season. But this…[Read more]

My problem with carbon and tracing is that sometimes the marks need to be on the right side, and that stuff doesn’t wash off!
I am learning to love tailor tacks.

Fiber Club! 10 years agoLinda is spot on. The only thing I would add is that some yarns are inherently very firm and some grow/bloom in counterintuitive way so also block your swatch. Even a half or a third of a stitch off (in width — row gauge is better handled in inches, I think) can add up so much more quickly than it seems it should.

I dreamt about the new O+S patterns last night. In my dream there were two of them and I was very excited but I cannot for the life of me remember what I dreamt they were … clearly sewing has been at the forefront of my thinking lately!

I second left-handed shears. I would also like snaps a little smaller and lighter than the size O+S currently stocks. Other ideas: packs of ideal-sized white or shell buttons for button-up-the-back dresses; small cord made especially for piping.

BeckyinFL replied to the topic Marking the markings–argh!! in the forum off topic 10 years ago
I read recently a suggestion someone had for marking the shoulder line on the bubble dress. They sewed a basting stitch through the pattern and fabric together then clipped the threads to remove the pattern. There were thread bits left in the fabric that marked the line. I can’t remember if it was machine or hand basting, but I’d probably do it by…[Read more]
