  • Once you’re happy with the zipper, and you’ve sewn the bottom skirt, you will stitch the extra zipper tape to the skirts seam allowance.
However with that much extra I’d be inclined to shorten the zipper a bit first. You need to handstitch round and round and round the teeth to create a new stopping point. Then cut the zipper an inch or two below…[Read more]

That is wonderful to hear about the pattern Tamara, I need to look into those myself. Jacob has grown into a small men’s size himself now. He is as tall as me and needs bigger size patterns now. I want to get some of the Thread Theory patterns and try out this fall for him and my husband both.

  • I would wonder about a rugby knit for the main and a woven for the facing Katy….

I am so glad you got to sew Masha. We are all thinking of you here.

I finished Zara’s shirt and it looks lovely on her. I fiddled around with the fit, taking it in at the high waist, letting it out over her bottom and taking some fullness from the sleeve.

Next up, a grey linen skort, Simplicity 1370.

I finally got some time to sew on Friday night, so I made up two pairs of Playtime leggings (I think this brings my total to 15 or 16), a quick knit maxi skirt for my 4-year-old and some linen pacifier leashes for the baby. It felt so good to sew!

So far we have had a cool summer here. I have three things to finish sewing for work for summer then onto some fun O+S clothes for my baby boy! I decided to sew one garment from each pattern so he has a good selection. He will be three at the one of this month, so hard to believe! After I finish up things for him it is onto school sewing for…[Read more]

  • This step is sewing the pleats. So long as you fold the fabric right sides together it doesn’t technically matter whether you hold it as in the picture (folded side on the left) or turn it upside down (folded side on the right).
If you flip it and have the fold on the right but the markings still at the top then it’s all still the same.
    Just sew…[Read more]

I was making a 6. I checked to make sure that I cut a 6 collar and 6 parts. It is super weird. One thing I figured out is that I needed to reverse which side was folded back and which side was open. That at least made the seam to front necklines equal at 3.5 inches give or take some “ease.”

I cut a 12 muslin and that will fit for this one.…[Read more]

I commented on flickr too, but what size are you making? I made the 12, 18 and 4 (have a 7 cut) and depending on the stretch of my knit I had to ease the collar. On a few of them I clipped just a tiny bit (like 2-3 notches) of the collar on the front sides, the back was fine on all of them. The notches are especially helpful on this one.
