The briars are for Imogen @WithloveHeidi. I do not foresee ever fitting into this size range again, or at least not for the foreseeable future. The neck seems to be very big for some reason and they look really long, even though I didn’t cut the cropped version to check for length. I will send it down to her to try on with the other Tania culottes…[Read more]

I feel a bit lonely, talking to myself….
I have a small pile of white based things I am working through today. Being the first chance of actually getting to the machine in weeks – this is most unusual!
White things consisting of, the pants part of a teaparty playsuit, a white dotted voile hide and seek tunic, two Briar t shirts (Megan Nielsen…[Read more]

Tamara replied to the topic Neck facing puckering in the forum oliver + s: butterfly blouse + skirt 8 years ago
@magonomics did it work out well? I was having a look at the latest buterfly top and noticed I accidentally puckered it while sewing the facing down. I usually like to hamdstitch the facing. It seems to have a much better result for some reason.

Tamara replied to the topic Underwear! in the forum off topic 8 years ago
The only underwear I’ve made are those that go inside swim shorts. Courtesy of Jalie who I think have exceptional swimwear patterns (but then I haven’t tried others so…) i would think their underwear patterns would be very straight forward.

I completely understand and agree with you there Susan! I just love to see my kids wear what I make and I am very grateful for the knowledge that has been presented to us and how sewing is coming to the forefront again. It is very therapeutic! My daughter has even requested to take her machine back to boarding with her for next term, she misses it…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Narrowing the body and sleeves in the forum oliver + s: school bus t-shirt 8 years ago
To achieve that, I would cut the exact same size again, but sew the side/sleeve seam with a bigger seam allowance.
An extra 1/4″ seam allowance will take 1/2 an inch off the sleeve circumference and a full inch off the chest/body.
Saves on retracing the pattern in another size. -

@madtownmama it sounds like you did everything according to plan. I had fitting issues with the nature walk pants for my two older children. I did exactly like what you did, chose the right kind of fabric and made according to the measurements and pattern etc. They just didn’t turn out the way I had expected.
The parachute pants, I made for the…[Read more]

@cybele, I’m confused! I got onto imstagram when the first message was mentioned but couldn’t find anything remotely close to a new pattern preview, or promo video for that matter. Would love to see and join in the excitement but I feel sad that I missed it😕

@withloveHeidi, we suspect she is also a little stressed oyt with everything that is on her plate. We are seeking help for the things she needs help with though and the staff are so good in the fact that we don’t need to think negativeky. They are genuinely interested in her wellbeing, not like at the last school.

I’ve only just realised I haven’t smocked anything for Chloë apart from the school days jacket and the carousel dress. Of course I am planning to use smocking in the Easter dress. Being currently away from home, the plans are halted somewhat but the mind is still buzzing with ideas.
The male members of my family are still going to have shirts…[Read more]

Here you go: https://oliverands.com/shop/sketchbook-shirt-shorts-sewing-pattern.html#tab-errata
You might want to have a peek at the older threads about this pattern. Folks who want a tuck-in style shirt often add some length, and there’s discussion there about how much to add for which size.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Adding a waistband in the forum oliver + s: field trip 8 years ago
Rather than using a different pattern, why not just cut two versions of the facing.
You’ll have a waistband with a top seam, but that can be a nice feature and help prevent elastic rolling.
Or, trim the seam allowance off the top edge of the facing piece then cut it with the length on the fold. That way you avoid the seam at the top.
Either way,…[Read more] - Load More
