I am finally feeling up to serious sewing again (kidney infection that would.not.clear.up; took 4 rounds of antibiotics!), with one week left to Christmas. This year is going to be weird to have so little handmade. However, I have made it my mission to make my daughter her Christmas dress (self-drafted pattern and it FITS!) that I worked on today…[Read more]

  • I still have the following patterns:

    Ice Cream 5-12
    Tea Party – 2t, 3t, 4 & 5
    Music Box Jumper 5-12

    Just message with interest. Thanks!

  • Wow! I’ve received a lot of messages! I will respond in the order received, and update the original post this evening. My husband took the day off work and whisked me away to go antique shopping, so I can’t update at the moment.

For those asking, I have the frock and wanderings coat patterns from sugar city, uncut.

    Thanks ladies!

  • I have a small handful of O+s paper patterns (including discontinued) that are too small for my growing too fast kidlets. I am keeping my faves, but I can’t keep them all, they need love! I also have a few other boutique patterns as well, including Sugar City

If you are interested, please message me. I will ship worldwide, you pay shipping. All…[Read more]

No, no voting. It has designated judges. Hence the small panic and dress deconstruction/reconstruction. But I sat down yesterday, and whirred at the machine, and I’m much happier. Fine tooth comb and all.

I’m doing what every crazy person does: I found out I’m one of 5 finalists in a nationwide sewing contest on Tuesday (had to submit 1-3 pictures of garment and a paragraph about said garment, and using a pattern from a provided selection) and so I promptly took my project almost completely apart and am obsessively and painstakingly putting it back…[Read more]

  • Liesel, perhaps some blog posts on fitting tween/early teens? With your patterns going up to 12, many girls’ bodies start changing before they outgrow the patterns.

Time for some selfish sewing! I ordered the silk batiste last night to make bias tap with for finishing the neck, arms, and hem facing of the wool dress I am making myself.

I’m very excited to get started on this project!

  • I’ve worked with blackout fabric, and it’s lightweight and durable. I use it as a lining/facing in curtains/drapes with ease.

  • Robin- exploring new fabrics is a fun adventure! Before you know it, you’ll have an entire library of knowledge of drape, strength, weight, texture and more that you will be able to put to use in the most amazing of ways.

  • I think he’s fascinated. Knitting and sewing are skills he respects. Possibly because he’s still impressed that I can turn string into fabric. And bolts of fabric become garments.

Not that his eyes don’t glaze over when I start discussing seam finishing and types of hems. 😉

  • I should add, the topic title is the question prosed to me by my husband last night. When he asked, my response was, “I have a few things lined up on the business end, and probably selfish sewing for me with my new fabric I bought with my Christmas money. And I should probably get back to work on the drapes for the living room…sewing for the…[Read more]
