    Ooh, that yarn is luscious!

I wish we all lived close enough for a stitch & word that rhymes with stitch. I have two ‘students’ right now (friends I’m helping with little things, really, they’re teaching themselves) and it’s so much fun to see somebody face light up when something clicks for them.

Reading is usually the best way for me to…[Read more]

I know a lot of people here are into knitting, crochet, embroidery, and other complementary-to-sewing crafts. I thought it might be fun to have a little nook of our own.

Some of my favorite knitting patterns are from Brooklyn Tweed, so when they finally came out with a children’s collection I was thrilled. I’ve made one cardigan already and was…[Read more]

  • I was thinking about this earlier today, and aside from all the stuff we usually talk about — the fine finishes, the quality of instruction, etc. — the thing that really makes O+S stand out to me is the eye for proportion. With the exception of adding a small amount of length to get extra months of wear from patterns I know will work that way…[Read more]

  • Just had a peek — yum! My favorite soup uses kaffir leaves and galangal, your curry looks delicious and I love fresh spices.

  • I think even a lot of people who are not veg/vegan themselves are very interested in incorporating more vegetables. I look forward to checking your blog!

We should start a knitter’s club! Seems like lots of do other fiber crafts on the side.

Jay, a new machine sounds so exciting! What do you have in mind?

You always feel such a sense of marvel when you realize that just a few generations ago, your husband might’ve come home from the hospital alone. Very, very grateful for what we have and for modern medicine.

The sewing fairy whispered in my ear that people who’ve given birth are allowed to take more than a week off 🙂 The sewing machine won’t grow legs and walk off.

  • The placket for the Layette is not very wide, might want to check your snaps against it.

Hi @admin — if you ever run completely out of other things to do (and not sure this bit is even your job) — it looks like the logo needed to be pushed just a speck to the left. Screencap attached. See how the lower right loop of the ‘s’ is shaved a bit?

Or has it always been that way? Like the little scissors have trimmed its seam allowance?

I had an annoying afternoon and thought I’d relax for a few minutes and watch a video on using my serger. This might have been … too relaxing.

I’m sure! I really, really appreciated the difference when I started sewing for myself. On tiny garments I didn’t mind doing finicky finishes but on an adult-sized garment that I hoped to wear in this lifetime, it was remarkable how much quicker it was. Good tools are such a pleasure to use.
