Brenda – YES, I found those patterns! I used the jumper pattern for Molly (which was the original doll I owned) as the base for all the dresses I sewed and it worked great.

Good luck with your jacket. My husband has a soft shell that he loves – but it cost an arm and a leg; even $20 fabric is a bargain in comparison!

Any special traditions you’d like to share with us? Favorite dishes? I managed to find canned pumpkin here in Madrid, so this weekend I’ll be making my Grandma’s pumpkin pie recipe. This evening we went out for sushi to celebrate–we’re not really big on turkey.

But my big news for the holiday is that today I finally finished the book manuscript!…[Read more]

That sounds challenging but in a good way Brenda.
I was reading and article recently that working on challenging projects may help prevent dementia. I cannot think of a nicer prevention.

I made some taslon Class Picnic shorts for Matilda’s end of year concert, last night (they are doing a Beach Boy medley) I had so much trouble with them and then…[Read more]

  • The back placket will extend the life of the garment. Lidia wore her for years past its ‘correct’ size as she could shimmy into it with the placket open.

Don’t take my ironing from me, it is how I sort my world!

A basket of crispy cotton and linen, dried in the sunshine, pressed smooth and hung on beautiful coat hangers and put away.

I would never get to watch telly if I didn’t iron 😉

  • I just tested one on my kid – it slipped easily over her head without unbuttoning the back. It was a teeny bit of a wriggle pulling it down through the chest, however. I don’t know if that helps or not! Honestly, if I were sewing in a rush it would work without the placket…but if I were sewing for someone else’s child, I’d put it in.

  • Oh no @jwo

I made Trixie a gorgeous white Hopscotch nightie yesterday which will stay pristine as I used a too firmer knit and it won’t go over her head.
    Le sigh.

I love flannelette pj’s. Amy Butler flannel is amazing. I have some jammies that are onto their third owner.

I finished Beatrix’s ‘go’ on my rota, on to Matilda, starting with a Jumprope school dress.

I love my (two) Tefal irons. They get nice and hot with lots of steam. I kill irons and this brand has lasted the longest.

We’re currently living in Columbus Ohio having moved here earlier in the year from Australia. While it’s really cold outside the house is very warm and my daughter finds flannelette much too warm, she just doesn’t seem to get cold. We’re going to be in NYC for Xmas too and I’m planning to just pack knit pjs.

  • My six-year-old vastly prefers knits to wovens. I make a lot of Playtime leggings for her. They are her very favorite thing to wear. She also really likes a knit dress I made for her by lengthening the Sailboat top pattern. That said, she will wear most dresses. She does not love collars but I can usually talk her into them. It’s funny, she…[Read more]

I hope you will post photos of the dress, Tamara!

Speaking of sewing tiny things, I am knee-deep in doll clothes to accompany the dolls my girls will get for Christmas. There are a billion free patterns for the 18″ dolls online, but as is often the case with free patterns, I am finding them to be hit or miss. I can’t bring myself to pay money…[Read more]
