I didn’t make much holiday wear this year. I made 2 pairs of shorts, 2 t-shirts and a romper and only one of the pairs of shorts was Oliver and S! (The other was Ottobre as was the romper and the t-shirts were Kwiksew and MIP)
However I did make 11 (9 large and 2 small) messenger bags from LTTS 🙂 -

I have a Brother SE400. I don’t have any software, but I did use a trial version of Sew What Pro when I was doing some monograms. There are a ton of resources online for Sew What Pro.
If you are just doing designs, you generally don’t need software, unless you are going to merge designs or alphabets. Call me an enabler, but the absolute…[Read more]

Working slowly, I hemmed and pressed the pleats on half the Anna skirt and topstitched one orange part of BB8’s today.

Love the idea of an embellishment challenge.
I have plenty of mash up ideas. They are just stuck in my head for now.

I agree with sateen for choice. It will look slightly dressier also. Don’t be afraid to add a little bit of colour into the mix. Even though my son wore the Christening gown I had already made, I made a silk romper for him to wear to my sister’s wedding the same year, in ivory silk and lightblue mini piping. It was perfect and very manly looking…[Read more]

I don’t have an embroidery machine but I am currently saving up for one 🙂
I would check out this forum on pattern review dedicated to machine embroidery, there has recently been discussions about embroidery programs. http://sewing.patternreview.com/SewingDiscussions/forum/25
Here’s a link to some free softwear by Bernina. It should work with the…[Read more] -

I’m working on a badminton skirt with the skirt part replaced by a pieced and pleated floor lengthy skirt to mimic the skirt from Anna’s coronation dress. And I now have the fabric to make the class picnic/garden party/swingers dress too 🙂
Maybe the next challenge could be an embelishment challenge. I’m thinking of all the embellished messenger…[Read more] -

Hi @caraskates, I think they will look adorable.
I have a tute here http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/short-cut-sailboat-pants.html if you would like a look at the construction (apologies for the dated graphics, I was in my colour phase)
These are a great trouser to size up, which will give you that longer leg you are…[Read more]

Yes I was thinking the same thing. I have enough for both the tunic and dress in the size 12-18 months which is what she is currently moving into. I cut the bubble dress using the Children at play border fabric. I just love this pattern.
I am hoping to cut the pinwheel dress and tunic today and also (maybe) a teaparty dress. It was so stinking…[Read more]

The pinwheel would drape so nicely in Liberty!
I’ve sealed together 2 sets of 5 panels and pressed in the box pleats. Now I need to wait until spotlight is open so I can get some sage green thread to sew the pleats in with. I’m really happy with how the skirt looks.
Also this evening I began an applique of the new Star Wars droid BB-8. After…[Read more] -

I confess I was hopi g to grab a moment to sew one last item for 2015 but didn’t get there. However, I am starting the sewing year off with a bang as I have traced six patterns in the new size required and am currently dilberating over which would be more suitable for my lovely and very precious Liberty lawn. Amongst them is the Pinwheel dress and…[Read more]

This is the first day I’ve felt up to sewing 🙂 I drafted Anna’s coronation skirt a few days before Christmas and cut out two thirds of the pieces. Now to cut the last 20 pieces and to get onto sewing.
P.S. The skirt will be made up of about 50 pieces, excluding the badminton waistband I’m going to add. I’m making a 10 panel skirt! -

The only time I truly saw my parents fight is when my mom found my dad cutting linoleum floor tile with her good scissors. (As kids we knew using the sewing scissors would be punishable by no less than death.)
