A ruffler is a great piece of equipment 🙂
I’ve also recently been using elastic thread in the bobbin as a quick and easy gathering/ruffling method. I like it because I can easily stretch the gathered piece to fit. -

Fiber Club! 10 years agoLinda is spot on. The only thing I would add is that some yarns are inherently very firm and some grow/bloom in counterintuitive way so also block your swatch. Even a half or a third of a stitch off (in width — row gauge is better handled in inches, I think) can add up so much more quickly than it seems it should.

Bees at a spelling bee sounds so cute!
I’ve traced off Jalie 3244, footie pj’s, and a hood from Ottobre. I’m making it in red and black coral fleece, super cozy 🙂 -

Today’s sewing consisted of sewing three Layette shirts in assembly line fashion. I currently have them in the hand sewing basket waiting for their neckbindings to be handstitched down.
I also managed to handsew the lining of the Cape Ann bubble and have also sewn the buttonholes. This is also in the handsewing basket waiting for buttons to go…[Read more]

I know what I do but I am not sure what it is called….
I stitch a small stitch into the sash ( 2mm) and that goes to a longer running stitch in the dress lining (1 cm), pulling so it is firm but does not pucker.
I will see if I can find a picture for you.

Really nice shears, needles, and pins, maybe a really nice thread for hand sewing delicate items? I’d be interested in something nice that I can’t get at JoAnn — not a consumable staple but something upgraded.

Yes a buttonhole chisel. I’ve always wanted one of those. Good quality pins that are sharp and won’t snag fabric. Sewing sheers! Liesl if you do decide to carry them, could you allow for us lefties please? It is very difficult find good left handed sewing scissors (sheers). Duckbill scissors would be great too.

I have one I inherited from my Grandma and I’ve only ever used it for heavy oaktag, so I’m sure it wouldn’t be effective on fabric by now. But I hadn’t ever considered using one on fabric until now. Nicole, please do show us what you use! Is it something you’d like to see us carry? I’m very curious.
And while we’re talking about tools, is there…[Read more]
