Finished up my green vintage patterned blouse, the wienie dogs are down to a fit and mark where the button holes and buttons go. I added some hidden boning to the green blouse, along with a covered eyehook, wax thread loop, clever tacks, and an invisible hem. Oh! and I covered the buttons, and I’m so so so glad I went that route- the blouse looks…[Read more]

I grew up with a John Deere mechanic dad and both sets of my grandparents were farmers. I can totally see Jed’s excitement over a price reduction like that!

@motherof5 oh, I’m laughing. The registration for the Russian Egg demonstration is full, so now I can let the answering machine do the work. So it’s on to dinner and then a late night of sewing!

I went upstairs to sew, and the house phone started ringing off the hook. The paper made a misprint of the phone number in a listing featuring hay for sale. I keep having to explain that I do not have any hay and that this is the wrong number, and I can’t not answer the phone because I agreed to take registration for a church event. I did call the…[Read more]

I’m working on 2 blouses for myself right now. One is a modern Simplicity that is very similar to a favorite peplum blouse of mine from Anthropology in a vintage wienie dog knit, the 2nd is a vintage McCall’s summer blouse in a green sateen cotton with tiny white polka dots. Of course, I went to JoAnn’s yesterday and snatched up a hot new Vogue…[Read more]

@madtownmama– I’ve sewn most of the O+s patterns, but I haven’t noticed any real issues with size inconsistency. I actually have to lengthen the sleepover pants (well, all pants patterns) for all 3 of my babies, and while I haven’t made the parachute pants, I noticed you had an issue with the waistband, so I’m wondering if you utilized the wrong…[Read more]

I did double when I drafted mine out of a heavy cotton linen blend. I also interfaced the collar to keep it crisp when worn by an active child. Hang on and I’ll attach pictures.

I did something similar the first time I made this pattern.
I had to sew the skirt side seams in layers; the base fabric was french seamed, the overlay was french seamed, and then I put the 2 layers of skirt together before attaching to the bodice. For the bodice, I basted and then sewed the side seams wrong side together, ironed (I have an iron…[Read more]

I should have updated with pictures, eh?
I didn’t have enough time to make and finish the chain mail shirt, but he claimed that the shirt would have been too uncomfortable and itchy after he wore the fitted chain mail hood all day. I am glad the weather was beautiful and unseasonably warm on Thursday for the fair itself, as there was no school on…[Read more]

Whew! Thank you for the reminder that Easter is in March this year!
My youngest needs new dress pants, I wanted to make a vest for him, and he needs a new dress shirt. Obviously, @mama_knowles has her act together, so I’m going to follow suit and make up the Art Museum set and a new Sketchbook shirt. The girl will need a dress. A collared Fairy…[Read more]

Wish me luck. My oldest has the school’s 8th grade Renaissance Fair tomorrow, and I am scrambling to put together a Crusader costume. We made a quick run to WalMart last night, and scored some white flannel and red felt for a tunic, and his faux chain mail is being created with large gauge black tulle layered over a silver metallic costume fabric.…[Read more]
