What top are you planning with the pants? If the top hangs over the pants you’ll have less pressure getting a perfect fit. I would vote for a sateen for the pants to give them a little structure. A cord would be my second choice.

I ended up sewing a Garden Party Dress (my first one) in red with gold piping. My girl had been asking for a Garden Party dress for at least 1.5 years! Now she finally has one.

Yes I was thinking the same thing. I have enough for both the tunic and dress in the size 12-18 months which is what she is currently moving into. I cut the bubble dress using the Children at play border fabric. I just love this pattern.

However, I am starting the sewing year off with a bang as I have traced six patterns in the new size required and am currently dilberating over which would be more suitable for my lovely and very precious Liberty lawn. The only time I truly saw my parents fight is when my mom found my dad cutting linoleum floor tile with her good scissors. (As kids we knew using the sewing scissors would be punishable by no less than death.)

I remember that style jacket being very popular in the 70’s.They were often fastened with a frog closure.
Would that work for you?

Or you could finish the edge and then baste an open end zipper under the front edge and then topstitch in place?
