@housecall, if I may be so bold, here is a tute http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/the-garden-party-tutorial-part-one.html

Unless your ribbon is very firm I would be inclined to sew it on top rather then replace the yoke and waistband.

    *Love* this pattern, have fun.

My pleasure, @ellenmcm was the hero here!
    Happy sewing.

Yay @angelwingneedlearts, I am so pleased.
Three inches would be no problem at all, I added that to a swish little black hanky linen version.

I have added length to the Portfolio with is sort of the ‘prequel’ to this lovely pattern.

I added it to the bottom, continuing the slight ‘A’ line effect.

Don’t forget to add to all the panels. 🙂

    I hope that helps.

This post is about the pleats but possibly the photos may help?

I have had the best idea, an O+S Moto jacket!
    How cool would that be?

It would totally work for a baby (from an old leather jacket) to a pre-teen.
    Totally unisex.

    Please Liesl, puh-lease!

@ginny3wI am so glad you got the right advice, I can’t wait to see what you do.

    Thank you @liesl

Oh Sarvi, I am so sorry.

You did just the right thing, no need to scare such a young child. A ‘facility’ issue is the perfect reason.

    Huge hugs.

Thank you @justsewit and @lightningmcstitch, I thought it was the piano?

I love school hols. No packed lunches but the food! Three loaves of bread yesterday and one child wasn’t home!

You made slippers @roundtheworldgirl? Wow, did you blog them?

I have not lengthened this skirt @ginny3w but I lengthen one similar for my girls.

I cut and added length at the hip.

I would caution adding too much length as I think it would spoil the line of the skirt.
Perhaps think about your styling? Black opaque tights are great if you are concerned about flashing your knickers.
As for you age, it matters not, if you can wear it well, go for it!

    I hope that helps.

@sanitystitches I haven’t but I did talk someone through it (can’t remember who though, sorry).
We decided it would be best to cut and add length at about 4 inches from the cuff to keep the nice shape of the sleeve.
It has a bit of a bias thing going on so it may need trying and tweaking before you hem it.

    I hope that helps.

I have two bags to make over the school hol’s. I will be in touch, Heidi, I am sure.

I have finished Matilda’s turn on the rota and I am on to Lidia. First up, a Sketchbook shirt with the Mandarin collar in Liberty.

I hope Murray is recovering @justsewit.

The school year has finished for us. We had our Presentation Night, Thursday night and it was a huge success.

Matilda was deliciously bouncy, dancing in her classes Beach Boy medley. Her neon Class Picnic set was just the job.

Lidia’s class danced to a Christine Anu song and honoured the artists cultural heritage by dressing in the colours of the Aboriginal flag.
I made her a sunny yellow Roller-skate dress.

Elsa and Zara co-wrote a comedy skit in which lines from pop songs were interjected into the conversation. Zara played a coffee shop waiter, Elsa a tradie, complete with facial stubble. Very very clever and funny.

Hugo has finished his schooling now and went out with a bang, performing Tim Minchin’s environmental ballad ‘Canvas Bags’. He brought the house down!

Our school is very small but I am still very proud of my beautiful children. Hugo won several awards, including Student of the Year for a second time. Zara was mentioned for her compassion and kindness in volunteering her free lessons to work with SN students. Elsa and Lidia both won their class academia awards.

It was a great night with everyone heading to the pub afterwards to farewell the leaving teachers and welcome the new arrivals.

A really positive end to the year.
