@dubhels2003 – you’ve just reminded me of a funny story that happened to my brother – he and his girlfriend were backpacking around England – it was freezing, so they went into a shop selling clothes/woolly things and asked for a ‘beanie’ – the little old lady was most taken aback and insisted they had the wrong shop, and they needed one further…[Read more]

I hope it’s OK if I join in…
Cossie/swim suit or swimming costume.
Soda is specifically the fizzy soda water generally used for mixing with drinks. Soft drink or fizzy drink (if fizzy!) for general non-alcoholic drinks. Pop is used if you want to sound ‘vintage’!
I love the variations in language, not just internationally but that exist…[Read more]

Well, still no Layette sewing done. I have lots of stuff traced but little time to do much about it. I am a bit grumpy about it.

I did get some sewing time in this week – a Bess dress & a tee for me, but aren’t feeling the vibe today.
As for Christmas sewing – I don’t have much planned, but I do want to make up some tote bags for teachers’ presents (although no biggie if I fail on this – they all get a tin full of caramel slice and one of my mum’s gorgeous felt Xmas…[Read more]

Fixed my profile picture! Tho it was right side up on my iPhone, it kept loading sideways when I tried uploading it here. Weird. When I emailed it to myself and opened it up on the laptop, it uploaded right side up here in the forums. I’ve no idea why, but at least it’s oriented correctly now!

I haven’t *technically* started my Christmas sewing yet, but I’ve pre-washed some lovely AMH interlock knit to make my mum a Late Lunch tunic as her present. It’s the next project after I finish these field trip cargos! Also on my Christmas sewing to-do list are: stockings for Olivia and my niece (I’m the “stocking-maker” in my family and this is…[Read more]

I need some ideas. I have a few teenage boys I’d like to give something small to for end of year/Christmas. I’d prefer to make it but I’m struggling with ideas.
I had thought about the earphone pouches like Nicole made for her midwives. https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/15298456187/
Has anyone with teenage boys got any good ideas? thanks Heidi -

I’ve started my Christmas sewing, in fact I started back in September as soon as I finished the last birthday of the year. 🙂
I think I’m about half way through. One of the biggest I was sewing is Elsa’s corronation dress with cape and gloves. The dress is done but not cape or gloves. I’m not sure how I’m going to make gloves! The other big…[Read more]

I say:
– crayons (2 syllables)
– soda (my husband is from Ohio and usually says ‘pop’)
– swimsuit or bathing suit– my husband says “crick” instead of “creek”
– my mother-in-law “warshes” her dishes as opposed to washing them. Another Midwest-ism, I think. How do you say “roof” and “mirror”? For me:
– ‘roof’ pronounced “rufe”
– ‘mirror’ has two…[Read more] - Load More
