Sandra, yes, box pleats can be done for Fairy Tale skirt. I’ve done them on 3 dresses, you can see/read about the details here:

Sounds lovely. Do you have the Music Box pinafore pattern? or the 2+2 skirt pattern? That could help with good width of pleats for child – after that, it’s maths.
Hope that doesn’t sound too brutal. I made a lot of pleated skirts on a yoke during the 80’s and 90’s, and it takes a bit of work but it does work with patience, and big pieces of paper. -

I downloaded Kitschy Coo’s Penny pinafore for me this morning. I think I’m nearly through the alterations. Although I’m comparatively short waisted for my 6′ in height I still end up adding like 4″ above the waist to get it in the right position! Hopefully all the extra length and the FBA gives me a good fit.
Then I need to find enough fabric…[Read more] -

@jay_1965vw good luck on the house hunt. I actually live in the NoVa area (recently returned from four years overseas). I hope you enjoy your time here!

@withloveheidi that is good to know – I also have the press and size 20 snaps. Yours look ok so perhaps I’ll just use what I already have. I am considering getting the size 16 die but I’ve also thought about just ordering the Snap Source snaps and setter here in the O+S store. I have a few months before I need to have those snaps in place…[Read more]

I use size 20 KAM snaps because I have a snap press and that’s the only size I have! I’m thinking of getting the size 16 die set next time I order as I think the size 16’s are smaller and flatter.
I made 2 sleep sacks/baby gowns from the hopscotch pattern yesterday, black with contrasting animal print yoke for a friend having twins soon.

Lots and lots of baby stuff. I was certain that #3 would be our last and so I gave everything away. Right now I have 10 newborn fitted diapers in progress and I am also working through the Lullaby Layette. I’ve determined to make most everything from stash fabric, which is requiring a little creativity in the matching department. I know from…[Read more]

Linda, what size and length of circular needles do you recommend to use with a sock weight yarn. The DNP’s are driving me crazy! I’ve got an easy pattern, it’s just the needles that are problematic.

Deb, I’ll be glad to help if I can. For knitting socks- when I started I just bought some sock yarn from Opal and the pattern was on the back of the label. Nothing fancy, just plain old socks. I knitted about 8 pairs like this before I felt I knew what I was doing. None of them fitted because I had not learnt how to adjust to fit different foot…[Read more]

I’m ashamed to say I haven’t bought Liesl’s book yet, but it is on my wish list. I have read so much positive feedback from people on this forum.

I am excited (again!) and can’t wait for the Gail Brown book- glad you think it’s good. I do look up info online but my favourite is reading a book. I recently bought an secondhand edition of Singer Timesaving Sewing book without expecting a lot from it. Was I wrong! It’s a great book, only slim but packed full of tips. Like you, I adore shopping…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Messenger Bag – using a directional print on the back panel in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 11 years ago
Oh, and as for where, I would do it so that the seam aligns with the notches where the side panels meet the back panel. Hope that helps.

Yep that’s what you’d need to do. Don’t forget to add seam allowance where you split the back panel and the front flap.
