Sarvi, I wanted to say a big thank you for the link you provided to Jones and Vandermeer. As T said, they have sell some great prints, and I was especially pleased to see their notions’ section. Very keen to try some purses – well, sort of- and J and V sell the frames you need to attach the fabric, and close the purse.
Suggestions like these are…[Read more]

I’ll be looking forward to seeing those shorts, Janice. Really useful discussion about girl pants, ladies. Unfortunately, I have almost no scope for these with my “kids”; apart from babies – ie up to 3 yrs, Australian girls seem to have taken ‘the pledge’ re. shorts and trousers. Very frustrating.

Tonight I made a Sunday Brunch skirt. Old school Oliver + S!!
I knocked up a quick one in some drill I was gifted in a stomach churning shade of pink. I’m sure she’ll love it and mostly I just wanted to check the fit and construction before I start fiddling with it….
I’m thinking a mini City Stroll wrap skirt using the Sunday Brunch as the…[Read more] -

I hope you work flicker out Sandra.
I’m making a winged badminton skirt. I made a number of these 3 years ago and my niece asked for another one as she had outgrown the first. I appreciate the time I took to make proper patterns of the wings and appliqués and label everything so I could very easily pull out the pieces I needed in the correct size 🙂 -

I’m making another upcycled playtime tunic. I’ve used an old tshirt for the bodice and sleeves and a piece of yardage for the skirt.

Karen, that’s what we were doing, making swords for the school musical 🙂 All the kids made very safe theatrical swords and mine was the dangerous one! It had sharp sides and a pointy point which will have to be shaved off before it can be used 🙂

Karen is right, you cut two backs from your main fabric and two from your lining.

What do you do w/ your unwanted fabric?
I’m in the process of cleaning and consolidating my sewing room. It had kinda got out of hand (again). Over the years, I’ve been given plenty of fabrics, but most of it isn’t suitable for my needs. I also have plenty of larger scraps but the cuts aren’t nearly enough to make a garment. I don’t have any…[Read more]

Apologies for any typos and the lack of a proper link, i’m topping on my phone.
If you can’t find one in the USA then there might be one at http://www.brightonsewingcentre.Co.uk They sometimes have some of the out of print patterns. I have no idea if they ship overseas. Good luck with your hunt.

I am a tad particular too. Once I left univerals, the quality of the stitch was much improved. But in this case a universal would be perfect.

I had the best day at work today, I got to spend all day in the woodwork/metalwork shed at school making wooden swords! I haven’t done any woodwork for over 20 years and that was only one term at school. I used the plane, hammer, chisel and files as well as the belt sanders, and drill. I really enjoyed the physical hands on of woodwork 🙂

@motherof5 thank you. I have been looking at one of the dresses and thought darts might work. It’s a darling white eyelet sundress, so I’d really like for P to be able to get some wear put of it. I’ll have to be careful any chalk I use doesn’t show, but I’ll give it a go.

So I finally ordered the pattern – I got the smaller size that her measurements actually correspond to rather than being cheap and trying to alter a size 5 so I have the pattern until she gets to middle school! I’m going to make a version in some very lovely green and white seersucker (which I know she will hate!) for size and then go from there.…[Read more]
