It looks like I will need to replace my Bernette FunLock serger. It was damaged recently and since it’s 20 years old (or older) perhaps it’s time to replace it.

The sergers in my price bracket that I’ve been looking at are: Juki MO0664D, Brother 1034D & 1134D, and Janome 8002D

Threading a serger is not an issue for me and I have a Janome…[Read more]

Yes, the reviews all say it is fabulous to wear and doesn’t come undone. I showed my sister the pattern and she got very excited about the cup sizing it caters for (she has been very blessed in the bust department). Of course I have to make mine first before really convincing her😜.

At the moment though, my guests have departed and we have two…[Read more]

Well the instructions were from the doctors to do “nothing” but being an active person there is no way he can sit and have a forced holiday for the whole 6 weeks! Besides we have people coming out to help with the broken down windmills so he needs to be up and at ’em. Mind you last night he was really feeling it as he has been sitting around and…[Read more]

If you are asking after my darling hubby, then yes he is but he can’t do anything and it is driving him (and me) insane. He is doing silly things like reversing the car out of the garage because he “wants to help” but he twinged a muscle getting Chloë from her cot after her nap the other day and was feeling very sorry for himself.

    And you should…[Read more]

We are still plodding away at the curtains – but I am so itching to sew a garment😳

We are just about finished sewing the curtains for the lounge room and then hopefully we can get onto the tab tops for the sewing room. And we HAVE to put the tinting stuff on the window to save my fabric!

I went to Spotlight yesterday and bought this most amazing…[Read more]

Oh she had totally crossed the line with the secrets thing!! Oh.My.Goodness!! My mum is a teacher and has been for as long as I have been around. She would be absolutely appauled at the things you’ve mentioned about the teacher’s behaviour. You just don’t do those things without some course of communication between the parent, principal and…[Read more]

I have a Brother SE400. I don’t have any software, but I did use a trial version of Sew What Pro when I was doing some monograms. There are a ton of resources online for Sew What Pro.

If you are just doing designs, you generally don’t need software, unless you are going to merge designs or alphabets. Call me an enabler, but the absolute…[Read more]

I have the 770. I just google “free appliqués” and “free embroidery” and have found a palethora of free files that way. I save them to my external hard drive, and only put what I am planning to use ASAP on my embroidery file only thumb drive (a regular thumb drive, with no files but embroidery files on it). You just have to make sure the files…[Read more]

  • Love the idea of an embellishment challenge.

I have plenty of mash up ideas. They are just stuck in my head for now.

  • I agree with sateen for choice. It will look slightly dressier also. Don’t be afraid to add a little bit of colour into the mix. Even though my son wore the Christening gown I had already made, I made a silk romper for him to wear to my sister’s wedding the same year, in ivory silk and lightblue mini piping. It was perfect and very manly looking…[Read more]

  • Hi @caraskates, I think they will look adorable.

I have a tute here http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/short-cut-sailboat-pants.html if you would like a look at the construction (apologies for the dated graphics, I was in my colour phase)

These are a great trouser to size up, which will give you that longer leg you are…[Read more]

Yes I was thinking the same thing. I have enough for both the tunic and dress in the size 12-18 months which is what she is currently moving into. I cut the bubble dress using the Children at play border fabric. I just love this pattern.

I am hoping to cut the pinwheel dress and tunic today and also (maybe) a teaparty dress. It was so stinking…[Read more]
