Sew Alongs 10 years agoHeidi I think that would make the problem worse in this case, sounds like too little collar rather than too little neckline. I made the 5 in two very different fabrics (a stable interlock and a soft, floppy wool knit) and the firmer fabric was fine, the softer one had a ton of excess neckline. I put in a big box pleat at the back neck. It’s really…[Read more]

Once you’re happy with the zipper, and you’ve sewn the bottom skirt, you will stitch the extra zipper tape to the skirts seam allowance.
However with that much extra I’d be inclined to shorten the zipper a bit first. You need to handstitch round and round and round the teeth to create a new stopping point. Then cut the zipper an inch or two below…[Read more] -

I am so glad you got to sew Masha. We are all thinking of you here.
I finished Zara’s shirt and it looks lovely on her. I fiddled around with the fit, taking it in at the high waist, letting it out over her bottom and taking some fullness from the sleeve.
Next up, a grey linen skort, Simplicity 1370.

I finally got some time to sew on Friday night, so I made up two pairs of Playtime leggings (I think this brings my total to 15 or 16), a quick knit maxi skirt for my 4-year-old and some linen pacifier leashes for the baby. It felt so good to sew!

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Step 1 – View A Front Skirt in the forum oliver + s: music box 10 years ago
This step is sewing the pleats. So long as you fold the fabric right sides together it doesn’t technically matter whether you hold it as in the picture (folded side on the left) or turn it upside down (folded side on the right).
If you flip it and have the fold on the right but the markings still at the top then it’s all still the same.
Just sew…[Read more] -

Sew Alongs 10 years agoI was making a 6. I checked to make sure that I cut a 6 collar and 6 parts. It is super weird. One thing I figured out is that I needed to reverse which side was folded back and which side was open. That at least made the seam to front necklines equal at 3.5 inches give or take some “ease.”
I cut a 12 muslin and that will fit for this one.…[Read more]

Sew Alongs 10 years agoCongrats Heidi!!
Ok. I am going to beg for more help here. I tried the wash and dry thing. No help. The collar is too short by approximately the extra added on by the placket. I checked and I cut the same size pattern pieces. (Lol).
If you go to Flickr I posted a picture of a drawing.
Any advice is welcome. I am likely going to cut a…[Read more]
