I just tested one on my kid – it slipped easily over her head without unbuttoning the back. It was a teeny bit of a wriggle pulling it down through the chest, however. I don’t know if that helps or not! Honestly, if I were sewing in a rush it would work without the placket…but if I were sewing for someone else’s child, I’d put it in.

McStitch has it right. The full-size page should be printed at 100%, no scaling, no “fit-to-page” — no nothing. Exactly as it is.

He he he, @ellenmcm your mum sounds great! I am of the same opinion as her, but due to my crafting I’ve had to buy one which I use in secret. I feel like I’m selling my soul to the patriarchy every time I brandish it, which makes patchwork a hotbed of internal philosophical conflict and very demoralising 😉
(Love my basic panasonic iron,…[Read more]

@ellenmcm well I sort of feel the same way. My family are forbidden to buy me household appliances such as irons for my birthday, mothers day or for Christmas. I was grateful to receive one as a wedding present though and if they explain that it would be strictly for sewing needs, then I guess it would be acceptable.
I guess that is probably why…[Read more]

@jwo I missed out too but at least you actually made two skirts. Mine were not made at all.
The latest stupid thing I did was with the Bistro dress. I fused the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric and attached the zipper perfectly before I realised! Firtunately you cannot see it because I used a narrower strip. But it was still silly!

I have a Tefal iron also but it is a replacement one from my original because our roof came off when my eldest was a baby and so it was replaced on insurance.
My mum has the very old irons as door stops – you know the kind that had to be heated on the stove? I woukd hate to go back in time and use the “innovative” gadgets of the day. I totally…[Read more]

I would suspect they’re looking at the page size of a page OTHER than the last page. You shouldn’t need to do anything to that pattern sheet except print it as is.
From all reports the ease of printing at a copy shop depends entirely on the staff member who serves you.
Good luck -

Oh no @jwo
I made Trixie a gorgeous white Hopscotch nightie yesterday which will stay pristine as I used a too firmer knit and it won’t go over her head.
Le sigh. -

I love flannelette pj’s. Amy Butler flannel is amazing. I have some jammies that are onto their third owner.
I finished Beatrix’s ‘go’ on my rota, on to Matilda, starting with a Jumprope school dress.

I love my (two) Tefal irons. They get nice and hot with lots of steam. I kill irons and this brand has lasted the longest.

Oh @jwo what a bummer. The skirt I saw on Instagram was awesome. I’m sure you’ve applied for extensions on work before, right? 😉

Well, it was just so nice to sleep in my own bed and have a decent night’s sleep after the past few days of being away.
We had an amazing introduction to life at our new school. The interview was wonderful. The new Principal is a great asset.

We’re currently living in Columbus Ohio having moved here earlier in the year from Australia. While it’s really cold outside the house is very warm and my daughter finds flannelette much too warm, she just doesn’t seem to get cold. We’re going to be in NYC for Xmas too and I’m planning to just pack knit pjs.
