What about adding a pleat down the back to take up the excess, and add bias binding to both edges of the front. Before you turn and finish the binding you could sew both bindings together at what will become the outer-most fold so you get a seam down the center. Like this quick sketch.

I’m partial to Kaufman’s Laguna jersey. It’s 100% cotton, not too thick and not too thin, and it comes in a nice range of colors. The heather grays are particularly nice.

Thanks for participating, @jessamyb! It’s really fun to see what everyone is doing with the pattern.

Yes, I completely understand your concerns. We’ve addressed it in our family by never using S’s name, and I try to be careful not to post specifics about where we live, where she goes to school, etc. You have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic To line or not to line the Lullaby pants? in the forum oliver + s: lullaby 8 years ago
I’m with Tamara. When in doubt, line to protect baby’s skin. You could also underline and treat both layers of fabric as one, which can be a nice option with the same general effect.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Question about sewing pocket lining on Everyday skirt in the forum liesl + co: everyday skirt 8 years ago
Hi Cat, the stitching for the pocket should continue to the edge of the fabric.
The fit of this skirt depends on how much you cinch up the back elastic. Ideally, the back panel should be about the same width as the front panel when the elastic is cinched to fit you. This will balance the skirt so it’s the same fullness all the way around. I…[Read more]

Hi Kelley, We haven’t published measurements for the hip, but it would be very easy to determine the width at the spot where you need it by holding the pattern up to your body and finding where your widest part matches the pattern piece. Then measure the pattern pieces at that position, subtracting the 1/2″ seam allowance. My guess will be that…[Read more]

@jessamyb Oh dear. I’ll do a blog post about interfacing to explain it a bit more–I just realized we’ve never really covered it in depth, so that might be helpful to you. In the meantime, however, I think you could remove it from the front placket by just unpicking the final seams that finished the placket. Then you could tear out the interfacing…[Read more]

@mariajsanroman, I love French seems too. They give such a nice finish, but they can indeed offer additional challenges. I’ll post a photo of a Gallery Dress I sewed. It’s dark here, so the light isn’t good but I think you can still see how I clipped into the seam at the dot to allow the two edges to separate for the hem. Does that help? As I…[Read more]
