  • I’m totally new to the world of adult sewing, and I’m hoping that this is one of those obvious things that everyone knows (and can tell me, cause I don’t).

I’m trying to find the correct pattern size to use to make bust adjustments. As per all the advice I can see, I have taken my high bust measurement. None of the patterns I have offers a high…[Read more]

Use your high bust measurement as your bust measurement. As an example, for the Gallery Tunic my full bust measurement is a size 20, but my high bust measurement is a 16. I sewed the 16 and added a full bust adjustment. This means the shoulders fit far better. Does that help?

  • Can you attach it to a post as an attachment? I am attaching a picture of a pancake to this post to check if it works.

I am dying to see the gallery with an FBA, because if that looks good, I need to make a million of them to wear to work. It’s a wear to work type shirt, right? Like, with a pencil skirt if you need to look like a high school…[Read more]

Nicole, messy is MESSY. From the outside, it’s neat. On the inside, I have one point where the topstitching is an inch away from the stitching attaching the cuff to the sleeve, and the cuff is wrinkled up. I like your method better. I think I’m going to re-cut the cuffs entirely.

Justsewit, I like the Music Class. It’s a super-cute classic piece.

I need advice. I pushed ahead on the shirt last night, flat-felling seams with a sort of minimal degree of competence. I may prefer french seaming for side seams. Anyway, I got the cuffs on. They look fine from the outside, and hideous from the inside. Pick off and try again, or…[Read more]

Justsewit, little ones grow so fast! And your Carousel dress sounds lovely.

I got through the magic burrito stage on the shirt! I thought about forging ahead to the sleeve plackets, but I only want to sew those ONE time, with minimal unpicking. So I’m holding off until tomorrow. I’m starting to think I can make button-down shirts, but it seems…[Read more]

I finished the second messenger bag, and traced a shirt for my dh.

I have never sewed anything in an adult size before. I’m terrified. The pattern pieces feel HUGE. I want to gather up all my children’s patterns and baby talk to them about how tiny and cute they are.

Vothgirl, that sounds like a great color!

  • Hey, if you weren’t fussy, you wouldn’t make your own clothes!

  • Lightning, when you say curly, do you mean like cotton Lycra? I’ve sewn a lot with that, and leaving the seams unfinished has not been a problem. They look good and wash well.

I agree that home made should be high quality. For wovens, centuries of experimentation went into developing hand and machine methods work working fabrics to demonstrate…[Read more]

I’m washing fabric for messenger bag #2: Goth edition. Messenger bag 1 is in the Flickr group. I’m excited to see the comparison!
