Hello, I’m gatecrashing this thread slightly rather than starting a new thread for a slightly self indulgent question. I really want to make myself a blouse, but I am quite specific about what I want, something like one of these:-

    or

    I’ve…[Read more]

Here is the link http://www.plushaddict.co.uk/dress-fabric/cotton-lawn-fabric.html They have only just started stocking it online. I’ve managed to pick up some bits in store at several places, but not online yet, other than ebay!

Selfishly I hope it isn’t Helena! And my sister’s name is Alice, maybe my folks were choosing from Queen Vic’s kids’ names?! I really like my name and I like that it isn’t too strange but isn’t an everyday name, and I would rather it didn’t become too commonplace. Not that it really matters in the bigger scheme of things I don’t suppose!

Plush Addict, a UK based online fabric store is selling some tana lawns, which are Liberty Lawns but are not the ‘A’ grade rolls sold in store at £15 per metre-ish. A great deal if you are not put off by any slight flaws. With a busy pattern they probably wouldn’t be noticeable. It is all above board/legal and is not ‘knock off’ fabric (I have asked!).

I’m looking forward to checking out the links when I get home and I have one or two to post. I also struggle with the ‘what is ethical’ question, thinking about it is overwhelming. I am keen to consume less and make my choices more wisely. I suppose I think I think I have purchasing choices, so I can do a little something with them. It may not…[Read more]

  • That blog post was really inspiring wasn’t it, I love this inspiration dress too.

When you look at the pattern there is a band appliqued across the front which you could omit, meaning that the dress would be gathered at the neck but not again lower down.

I’m just having a think about what I would do on the back. I might have to come back to that…[Read more]

I am really interested in what others think about trying to sew things more ethically. I think there has been reference to this in a number of other posts, and on the blog. (If I am duplicating a post please merge it/bump the old thread!)

If we are sewing ourselves we are doing away with part of the manufacturing process. What about fabric…[Read more]

I would have to say that I have never visited anywhere like Mood in my life. The choice is overwhelming. I’ve really enjoyed this thread, and everyone’s different approaches. It has also made me reflect on my husband’s hobbies!

In terms of too much ‘stuff’, before the creation has even started I collect patterns and fabric. I have spent years saying I will use it, but the reality is that I will never use all of the patterns (mostly vintage) and…[Read more]

I recently mooted the idea of a Paris sewing trip to my Mum, Auntie and cousin. I had found this page suggesting some sewing shops, if it’s of any help to you:- http://atelierclaraines.canalblog.com/archives/2012/09/17/25121595.html

Not sewing related, but I had also saved this:- http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2011/may/06/top-10-cafes-paris…[Read more]

@withloveheidie It is great that your machine was fixed so quick! I daren’t take mine in for fear of being without it for weeks.

@roundtheworldgirl It sounds like the lack of insommnia is a double edged sword, more rest but less sewing! I am thinking of signing up for KCW and just seeing how it goes, I’ve never actually managed the sewing…[Read more]

You are both brilliantly brave for talking about what is affecting you, I hope you find some respite and joy soon. I am definitely a believer in trying to find the time and space to do a little of what you love, so sorting sewing space is a must. Good luck both of you. Helena
