I am putting the finishing touches to my birthday party dress. I used the elastic measurements from the layette pattern to use for the elastic on the seashore bloomers and it was a little long. Try doing this http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/garden-party-dress-part-two.html except for adding the waistband. Baste the side seams, fit and adjust yours gathers and then unpick the side seams and add the waist band.
Then you can make it as big as you need too.

This will be a good challenge for me. I’m not really a masher upper and I don’t know why, I always like the results other folks get quite a bit.

My sewing gal-pal @ock-du-spock tracked down the same pattern in a larger size.

It is lovely fabric.

Not to go against @with-love-heidi, she sews for a plethora of lucky children, I would only add to the back if she is really overweight.
Chubby little girls tend to have big tummies, which this dress would disguise well, if you add to the back it may get ‘tenty’ and lose the original look.

Wow! Lots of sewing Heidi. Lucky you for having a four day weekend! I am sewing along with kids clothes week and have so far made two Seashore dresses and bloomers to match. I have some fabric ready to layout with the Birthday party dress on the cutting table which is the next project and after that I hope to have at least one bubble dress made.…[Read more]
