After a pretty rough day yesterday with this nasty gastro bug, I managed to complete the little tiny bit of smocking and have blocked it and zigzaged to form the piece.
The aim today is to assembly line sew the tea party (outer) dress and the carousel dress, along with a pair of layette pants and to pleat another dress front so I can sit and…[Read more]

Tamara replied to the topic working with Knit fabric in the forum oliver + s: hopscotch 10 years ago
In my experience, finishing the seam on knits makes the seam stronger. If you have an overlocker/ serger, I would use this for all seams and then do the hems on the normal sewing machine if a coverstitch isn’t available.

Can you seam some scrap fabric and have her hold/rub it against her skin, maybe around the neck where the seams might be thickest? See which version feels nicest for her?

If you’re using a curly edge knit I wonder if it wouldn’t be worse to have the seam allowances raw…
Personally I can’t leave knits unfinished or unhenmed. Just me, but I strive for my homemade stuff to be worthy in craftmanship of shop bought, if not better.
But then I use an overlocker/serger for knit sewing, so my sewing and finishing is one…[Read more] -

Seam allowances are included.
In the written instructions it will tell you that they’re 1/2″ (as per every Oliver + S pattern.
Be aware that many of us find the hat runs small compared to the suggested age, but quite true to the measured size. Make sure you measure your kids noggin. If in any doubt I’d say go up a size. -

Alright! Another Oliver+S skirt sewn! This time it was the Swing Set skirt and tunic. And I used my favorite fabric line ever. Is it wrong for me to want one in my size? Also, I think my drawstring ended up too short…what do you think? Thanks to everyone who is sewing up Oliver+S patterns and linking them up; it’s getting to be quite a…[Read more]

I made a Carousel dress for Liddy (11),today.
I used sand coloured velvet/uncut cord (not sure what it is) with red topstitching. It has quite a medieval feel to it.

vothgirl replied to the topic Hem help! in the forum liesl + co: everyday skirt 10 years ago
@georgeandizzy that’s awesome! I made one out of a piece of printer paper but the curved edge on the one in your link looks easier to use. Picking one up on my next trip to Joann’s!
When I made this skirt, I had to put in a couple tiny tucks on the folded-under edge to get it to lay flat. The tucks aren’t visible from the outside of the dress :-).
