Cellisttoo replied to the topic Totally confused – Attaching the Facing in the forum oliver + s: birthday party 9 years ago
I am making a sneaky school uniform using the birthday party dress pattern and had some questions. First of all, I used bias tape to finish the bottom edge of the facing. Now that I am about to make the pleats I am wondering if you pleat the facing fabric as well as the outside? I am afraid that it is going to be lumpy with the bias tape.…[Read more]

Ok, we can try those, I just picked some up at a fabric store a few weeks ago. Probably doesn’t bother you as much to sit on them when you are tiny. Fewer pounds per square inch.

Wouldn’t the insignificant ones break when she sits on them (or goes down the slide)? These are school uniforms- so they get a lot of wear.

Maybe snaps instead? I am worried about her sitting on buttons all day.

Figure skating pants are made out of polartech powerstretch fleece. You can get the fleece with a smooth face and a fleecy face. You put the smooth face out. I was wondering if the best finish would be with serging, since I don’t have a serger (maybe I need one).
I actually just bought some of this fabric at SR Harris, in Minneapolis/St. Paul,…[Read more]

I do it because it makes ironing sooooo much easier. Particularly on pleated skirts! When you are talking school uniforms which get worn every day, that is A LOT of ironing you can make easier with a few minutes of sewing.

I think that is a good point- I was just thinking that since the flaps were there I could make pockets too.

I loved the edge stitched pleats so much, I went back and edge stitched ALL of my daughter’s uniform skirts and jumpers- even the ready made ones. All 14 of them. Ha!

Can you replace the buttons on the back of the dress and use a zipper instead? I did this on the music class, but not sure about this one. I assume I would follow the same process of figuring out the allowance for the placket and then adding back in the allowance for the zipper?
Can’t wait to try this one, and since it will be an 8, might be…[Read more]

Cellisttoo started the topic Lengthening in the forum oliver + s: music box 9 years ago
I made the music box (view B – no pleats) in a size 6 around and 7 length. It really fits well over all, but I notice it is slightly tight around the arms (my daughter hasn’t complained, but I notice it when I zip it). I only lengthened the skirt. I wonder if it would work better to also lengthen the top portion? If so, where do you add the…[Read more]

I love the pocket flaps, but it would be even cooler to have REAL pockets underneath them (especially for the school uniforms I am making). Anyone ever done this? Would I use welt pockets???
On an unrelated note, if anyone is ever in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, check out SR Harris fabrics. I have never seen anything like it! Picked up some…[Read more]
