My concern relates to the use of pesticides in the farming of cotton, which equates to 5 lbs. of pesticides per tee shirt. That is a lot of toxic stuff we are pouring into our Mother Earth and then passing it on to our children. But the other issue, and certainly not the least, is the health of the farmer and his family. It is easy to understand…[Read more]

  • Mood Fabrics is fun but with so many types of fabrics there you should have an idea of the type of fabric you are looking for so you can zero in more quickly. It has floor to almost ceiling packed with rolls of fabrics with signs stating the fabric type and fiber. They also carry ribbons and buttons and fastenings. If you only want to go to one…[Read more]

Sarvi: oh dear, I did not mean to come across in the way of thinking that all shopping in stores is unethical. It’s the excessive part of it all that I was addressing. As far as in my home, I buy what I need and cannot make (undies coats, special dress up items for example) and make my everyday clothes and some dress up items. I work at home and…[Read more]

Boy I can relate to this. When I was sewing for my kids I made what I enjoyed and they would wear. There was never an issue of them having too many clothes, not until the one and only daughter became a teenager and then I just let her make her wardrobe decisions. She loved hunting down fashions at yard sales, thrift shops and wardrobe closets (she…[Read more]

I just set up an order for 6 yds @ $24 total and the shipping was $13.30 (in USA) so I think you need to contact their service line.

I never had shipping charges like that. Perhaps you should call their customer service line or send off an email.

  • I was remembering the various costumes and it came to me that we used very inexpensive craft felt for the hats and a pattern very similar to the hood in LTTS for many of them over the years. The thing we liked was that we didn’t have to worry about a close fit and no worries about them falling off since they had ties. The hood pattern could work…[Read more]

  • one year I had to make about 30 costumes for the kindergarten kids to be blackbirds, (along with numerous donkeys, ladybugs, fireflies, camels, stars, lambs, and angels for the older kids) for the school Christmas show. I made hats similar to the ones shown above in those wonderful pictures and video (just loved looking at those!) and the kiddos…[Read more]

The fabrics stayed nice and soft too but I did not make anything with pleats as I assumed that it would be impossible to get a crisp pleat fold. The bonding fabric was a soft shiny lining knit of some kind. I would machine wash and dry my bonded knits at home but the wools went off to the cleaners. They all held up really well.

Bonded fabrics arrived on the home sewing apparel scene about 47 yrs ago, when I was 16 and I loved them. I used to create cute shorts style zip front jump suits in bonded knits for school (the legs were wide enough to pass as culottes) as well as culotte skirts in wools and knits and even a tent dress (remember those you more “mature” sewers?!)in…[Read more]

However, blizzard notwithstanding, I did go online and ordered some fabric at Girl Friday’s for tops, leggings, and for a few infinity scarves. I am thinking of trying a bathing suit this spring.

Up here, foothills of the Adirondacks, we avoided the snow when a cold dry arctic blast came through and moved the snow 75 miles east. No sewing though. We are retired and thus only have a small farm so storm preps means hauling hay to areas easily accessible, blanketing any animals that can wear blankets and hauling hot water to the water buckets…[Read more]
