BeckyinFL replied to the topic Preventing bodice lining from rolling into view at arm and neck holes in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
Thank you all for your replies. I guess I needn’t have worried. I did clip and trim closely, and the lining seems to be staying on the inside of the garment with no inclination to peek outward. I didn’t under-stitch at the front neck opening (stitch the facing to the seam allowance for a little way, as the pattern instructs) because, silly me, I’d…[Read more]

BeckyinFL started the topic Collar drafting question in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
I want to draft a Peter Pan collar for the apple picking dress. (I love that dress as is, but this is a special project.) The collar will lie flat against the dress. What I’m wondering is if I can simply duplicate the neckline of the bodice or if I need to make the neck of the collar piece a little larger in diameter. If dresses were made of…[Read more]

Just made a Playtime Dress in a calico, size 12-18m. I think it would have been better in a knit — for easier dressing and undressing. It’s very cute, though, and I do like the mock collar stitching.

I think it would be much better in a knit. It’s very cute, though, and I do like the mock collar stitching. Nice touch.

Here is the finished jumper with the nap running upwards: https://www.flickr.com/photos/128353028@N04/15215509103/in/pool-oliverands
I like the look very much. It’s rather like looking into velvet when the nap is up like this. You’re looking down into the grove of plushies. Used nap down, as you would naturally do, light reflects off the…[Read more]

I’m making a jumper of medium-weight corduroy, and I found a nice fat quarter of what looks like a Liberty lawn that I’d like to use to line the bodice. This is the Music Box Jumper, by the way. The bodice lining is cut the same as the bodice outer fabric. I am wondering if this combination of fabric weights will cause the lining fabric to roll…[Read more]

I just cut out a Music Box Jumper of blue regular corduroy, “cuddle me upwards.” Will post pics when it’s done.

“You must cuddle me upwards.” LOL I’m going to remember that! And — another sweet photo. You better hope that child stays just that age forever. (Not really.)

Has anyone ever intentionally used corduroy so the nap runs upward instead of downward in the finished garment? I had some slacks like that once, and I loved the richer look of the cloth. I have some nice corduroy I’d like to use for a jumper now, and I’m debating laying out the pattern so the nap will run upwards. Is there any sewing or wearing…[Read more]

Hi Lola. I’m glad to see another newbie pipe up! I’ll tell you what I have been doing to get an idea of what can be done with each pattern is going to the Oliver + S Flickr group and typing in the name of the pattern as a search term. Voila! A zillion pictures of exactly what the creative sewers around here have turned out. It will have you…[Read more]

Thanks for your comments, all! Cybele, this is not my first. I have rapidly cycled through crushes on several other O+S dress patterns after discovering them a month or so ago. I feel like a kid at Christmas who runs from one opened present to another, saying “This is my favorite!” Each is so distinctly it’s lovely self. I think you’re right that…[Read more]
