Wow, I’ve ballsed this up big time….
The culottes appeared to fit, so I trimmed the waistband down to fit the culottes. I ended up taking 1″ off each end! The waistband was still generous compared to the culottes.
Curiously, while the back notches were out by about 1″ (as expected) the front notches matched perfectly???
Anyway, they’re finished…[Read more] -

@Ejensewchat I’ve just found exactly the same issue as you. My waistband is bigger than my culottes waist. I’m a pretty precise dart and pleat sewer so I’m unsure what’s gone wrong. I am using a stretch chambray/denim, but given that the waistband is interfaced it will stretch much less. Bit baffled as to why it’s this way round and not a smidge…[Read more]

Nicole replied to the topic Fixing small hole in jersey knit?? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 11 years ago
I do a lot of darning by using a small piece of soft interfacing ironed to the back, over the hole, and then I hand sew it with a matching thread making sure not to pull it too tight. A good press afterwards flattens things down.
Often it will just look like a slub in the fabric.

Ha! Thank you McStitch, pretty sure any yummy treats would not survive my sewing room in sufficient numbers to be presented as a gift.
I’ll have a peek at the Amy Butler also, thank you Robin!

Oooh, rotary blades are so super sharp, please do be very careful. I just use a seam ripper for everything. It’s a bit slower than ripping out an ordinary seam as there’s more thread, but it’s still just thread loops so the concept is the same. Have you got one of these things?

Ooh. We might need the keymaster to officiate. The time gives it to Cybele but mine appeared first…. Weird space/time wormhole in the forum?!
Run with whichever you prefer, or both perhaps… -

Jaimielaura: I recently bought a Janome Coverpro 1000 CPX and love it. I’ve got several attachments to do elastic etc., but mostly only use it to do hems….which it does so professionally.
If you go to patternreview.com there is a section that reviews coverstitch machines so you can read what owners have to say. -

Slightly off topic but after 3 years of aggravation I have had my overlocker/coverstitch serviced and set to purely a coverstitch.
I really, really wish I had just gone with a coverstitch in the first place.

I don’t bother ironing knits before cutting (in fact I try not to iron anything ever, but that’s me) as it just seems to make the edges curl even more. If I were patient enough I’d take Nicole’s advice and let it settle. The only time I think too much about cutting knits is if they’re stripey and I’m trying to match stripes. That’s a lot of the…[Read more]
