I do, I use fold your own bulky towelling squares. 🙂
I simply size up, usually two sizes then when they are out of nappies, you have shorts waiting. -

@Buratti made some good points. My youngest is not as easily amused as my older children were, so my sewing is back to only a couple of hours a day (but my house is sparkly and washing up to date as she likes to help with those)
I have a new ‘most difficult project’ a jacket I am making my son. I have already put in 9 hours and only 1/4 of the…[Read more]

I hope Murray continues to mend, poor chap, he must be so frustrated just over seeing the workmen.
So sad to hear Prince has died. I have several of his songs in my running playlist, I got quite a lump in my throat working out today. 🙁

I have started my sons blazer and I am grateful for being sleep deprived/fearless/don’t care as there are next to no instructions.
My fabric is a nice wool/poly mix, but not expensive so if it is a cluster it can be donated to the local Am-Dram group.
I am predicting this will be at least a two week sew.

If you want really pointy ears, I wonder if a scrap of boning would work?
I sewed it in cotton velvet and my ears were a bit floppy (but oh so cute)

Much the same as @markjebobarrhotmail-com but it was a wedding dress and the bride was pregnant and her boobs were too big on the day!
I had to hand sew the dress to her bra.It was a pretty embroidered voile and was all split by the end of the night.
My favourite sew was a Peacoat for my son, it was a big sew but not hard, just a lot of steps…[Read more]

I am not sure what it’s correct name is but I use this stitch, not too tight with the tension.
A small stitch to the tube (or the dress) and then a longer one to the other, but don’t pull too tight!
Good luck!

These are great answers! I hear you on the curtains, @justsewit and @enbee. I made sheer linen Roman shades for the living room in NYC a year or two ago and they were brutal. And I also hear you on the quilt, @rhythmtyagi. Your answers are all very interesting. Keep them coming!

Well, you’re practically reading my mind! Thanks for the feedback, and I think you’ll be happy with at least one of the fall patterns, then. xo

Ooh, well done @TamaraH! My mom sewed me a very similar prom dress: similar silhouette and fabric, but mine was strapless. I recall multiple fittings and many late nights on her part.
But think of the great memories she’ll have!
What’s on your “to tackle” list? Anything you’re really wanting to learn?

I’m thinking about looking for a heavy twill when I’m in London next week. I’ve realized there’s an outerwear gap in my closet: winter coats, rain coats, and nothing in between. What do most people wear when the weather turns too cool for a raincoat but before you need a full-on winter coat? I’d like something that travels well (i.e., not too bulky).

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic What do you think? Feedback welcome. in the forum Sewing for Yourself 8 years ago
Yeah, it’s difficult to write a pattern that includes instructions for people with and without a serger. I guess the good news is that you can always draw in a smaller seam allowance if you know you’re going to use the serger/overlock/etc. I’m glad you like the result!

And what made it difficult? In the end, was it a triumph or a disaster? Or something in between?
And as long as I’m asking questions, what’s the next skill or project you want to tackle–but maybe are a little afraid to try?

Generally if the curved hem is slight you shouldn’t have a problem. As demonstrated by @juliamom2009!
