What are you sewing now?

Sarvi, I’ve sewn three of the Ice Cream Dresses (one dress and two tunics, actually) and I think it’s really quite simple. It’s easier than a lot of the oliver + s patterns because you don’t have to worry about setting in a sleeve! The trickiest part is attaching the yoke to the bodice, and as long as you go slowly and pin well, you’ll be fine. Remember, if you don’t like the way it looks the first time, you can always rip it out and try again. You’ll be fine. 🙂
14 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviThanks for the encouragement! I’m looking forward to it, since the bodice-to-yoke bit was where I got stuck with another pattern, and this one looks a little more mild. Fingers crossed!
Also, I was looking at Sartorialist today for ideas, and saw what looked to me like a Sailboat top, Sandbox pants, and School Days jacket!

I will try the top and pants in a similar look and see what I get.
14 years ago LINKlattemama @lattemamaI wish I could sew but we’ve been struck by an unusual heatwave and I have absolutely no interest in anything other than lying still in the shade next to a fan with a glass of ice water.
Too bad I can’t do that with the kidlets running around as usual.
I have a Sailboat top cut out for the big girl in a knit that I hope to try as soon as it cools down enough.
Other than that I want to do a bit of management sewing to get a quilt top out of the way, so I can pick up more clothes sewing again.
I hope the heat cools off a little in time for the Ice Cream Social. I really want to join in that.
14 years ago LINKAnonymous @I’m busy searching for fabric for a jump rope dress. I’ll be making view A with long sleeves for Fall. I’m also waiting for the fabric I ordered for the kids’ winter coats. My plan is to start on those soon so that I can take my time and enjoy making them instead of rushing once Fall hits. I’ve made a list of other things I want to sew for Fall and I’m collecting fabrics for them now, too.
14 years ago LINKsayiamyou @marayaI have been spying knits that I like for fall. Can’t wait to see what Liesl has come up with for fall knit patterns!
14 years ago LINKEmily @EmilyI’m finishing up a School Days coat for my daughter. It’s gone together with surprising ease – I was a bit intimidated by the wool melton, but it turns out that everyone is telling the truth when they say it’s a forgiving fabric. I’ve gotten to the point that I’m blindstitching the hem, so it’s nearly done. I haven’t begun the insulated vest yet, but I figure that she won’t need that until December (we live in Seattle – quite temperate) so I’m in good shape there. I’m eager to finish it and put pictures up on flickr!
14 years ago LINKAnonymous @Yes – let us see, Emily! I’m waiting for the fabric for 2 School Days coats to arrive any day now. Next week I need to have my machine serviced and I hope to get them cut out then. I’m very excited to get started on them when my machine is fixed!
14 years ago LINKEmily @EmilyOh NO! I finished the machine sewing on the School Days coat last night, and this morning my sewing machine has stopped working!! I’m glad I got the coat done, but I’m worried about my little-machine-that-could (1955ish Viking 21A)! I’m taking it in for service today, but I won’t have it back for a week. I’m already going through withdrawals. SOB.
14 years ago LINKsayiamyou @marayaYikes. A week without my machine would make me cry for sure! Hope she comes back good as new!
14 years ago LINKEmily @EmilyI just got the call that my machine is ready for pick-up. Super fast service! (I’m sure it didn’t hurt that I left a $20 tucked under the case with a plea to return it quickly…) I’m so relieved that I’ll be able to join the Ice Cream Social next week. Huzzah!
14 years ago LINKClever, Emily! Must remember that for next time.
14 years ago LINKcherry @cherryI’m about to finish stitching the lining to the main fabric on the school days coat for my daughter- I only started it yesterday and I can’t believe how fast it came together!!
Last week I made 2 sailboat skirts and a sailboat top for my little girl, and am going to start a sailboat top for my son tonight (the one I made last week was meant for him but was too small!). I am also doing the ice-cream social so have plans for a View A and View B Ice Cream dress. Then some sandbox pants (converted to shorts) for my son.
Busy!!! I love O&S!
14 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Must finish Son&Heirs shirt, It still bugs me I did not get that finished !!!!
Next up is the School Days jacket for little one.
14 years ago LINKckcsbella @ckcsbellaI just finished a birthday party dress, except for the back buttons. I need to get some. I have been trying to use up my stash, but my button stash is completly depleted! Next up is a Jump Rope dress, for which I need buttons AND thread. I don’t know when I’m getting to it, as we are out of town for most of the next week.
14 years ago LINKlattemama @lattemamaWell – that was quick. I just finished an Ice Cream blouse for my big girl. I did a size 8 and I hope it will fit her.
I was gonna make it in a pretty cream cotton with little geisha dolls, but decided at the last minute to make it in a generic seersucker I had at home.
I think I’ll prefer that to be too small …
It came together really quickly. I was surprised. And it was pretty too. So fingers crossed for fit, please.
