What are you sewing now?

Thankyou for your thoughts. I have cut out a sketchbook shirt and shorts for my son and an apple picking dress aswell as a music class skirt in the same print for my daughter. I have to look at what to do for me and figure out if I really have the time to do it all – the wardrobe has something in there just in case.
These have to be made by Sunday night to be worn Monday and then I can get to the new parcel of fabric that has arrived after waiting for ages.
I will take handsewing to the dance dress rehearsal on Saturday and that should speed the process up a little.
Hope you had a flutter on the horses at your luncheon Nicole. I didn’t even get to find out who won!
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaso sorry for your loss, Tamara.
I threw together a music box jumper over the weekend to be used as a Halloween costume! I will try to get those pictures up later today. Next, I’m cutting out a non-O&S project as well as maybe a quick flannel picnic blouse for cold weather playwear. Between her birthday and Halloween, it go so crazy here that I barely know what I’m doing. Yesterday felt like the day after Christmas – when you can finally catch your breath! I need to re-assess my queue and organize my space.
13 years ago LINKrastis @rastisjustsewit, i’m so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law
sadly no sewing going on here at all… i had to pack up my sewing room cause we are moving house soon… and even when i’m exhausted from children and packing i’ve got itchy fingers to be making again
13 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I am so inspired my Mel’s generosity I have decided to sew a few baby gifts.
I have just drafted off the Sketchbook shirt and shorts in the teeny size,so so cute! I am getting clucky just looking at it!
Still putting off sewing Polo’s……
Fitted is fashionable right? That what I am telling the Twins when they complain about their present one’s.
13 years ago LINKmle bb @mle bbI am currently working on four sets of Bedtime Pajamas for my cousins’ four little ones. One of my cousin’s just found out yesterday that the company she works for is closing and she will soon be out of work, and this is at a time when money is tight already. The way I know I can help out is by making her daughter some clothes (and winter ones because her birthday was in the summer!) as she does not receive many hand-me-downs because she has five boy cousins. So for little Lucy I have an Ice Cream blouse, After School Shirt, a Playdate Dress for Thanksgiving and fabric on the way to make the Family Reunion Dress and a couple shirts. Now I just have to convince someone to buy her some turtle necks to go under some of the short sleeved options and some leggings for the dresses…easy enough 🙂
Nicole the teeny tiny sketchbook shirt sounds adorable! Tamara my thoughts are with you as you go through this difficult time. Melelzia, your boys look cute all dressed up and the dress/costume for your daughter is so precious!
Wish me luck on my making I usually lose momentum a couple days in and today was day 2 of sewing garments…
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh you ladies are so industrious it is making me quite anxious to attach myself to the sewing machine. The blurry week is continuing of course but will clear by Tuesday when we have our private commital and say our final farewells. I’ll be so glad to be able to get back to the sewing machine again and I’m really really hoping we can wind up the final points of funeral preparation tonight so that I can sew!
I have a bit of waiting around to do tomorrow with the dress rehearsal for the dance concert and am really hoping to have handsewing handy … what? I don’t know exactly it is all a matter of throw something in the bag on the way out the door.
Thankyou so much ladies for your kindness. Your words have brought me such comfort during this time. I’m off to find a nice version of “How Great Thou Art” to sing to.
Happy sewing.
13 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI am praying for you and your family justsewit.
I will be finishing up an apple picking fall dress for my toddler today. I made growth tucks on a single layered skirt with lace trimed skirt and button placket. After that some fall/winter fun! I have the makings for a winter Sunday brunch jacket with matching LTTS book hat and mittens. Sweet pea picket out some oak leaf wooden buttons for her jacket and I think they will look wonderful with it. After that onto Christmas sewing!! Yippy!!
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaThanks, mle! I’m finishing very new pattern tonight and then I’m breaking my fall palette challenge to try a quick Lisette pattern. Hubby asked me tonight to take a break from sewing! Like for a whole weekend or more. He can’t be serious, can he?
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitThank you Sharon. Tomorrow is the big day and everything is ready (I hope). I’m feeling very tired – I think emotional exhaustion. You would not believe how many renditions of How Great Thou art are on Itunes!
I’m really glad to finally get the chance to make something for the kids to wear as they had yet another growth spurt in winter and haven’t got many suitable items to wear for tomorrow.
Quickly doing a white Sketchbook shirt, Sketchbook shorts, Apple Picking dress. Didn’t get time to even tack yesterday just so very busy organising things and stopping the guys from fretting about this rain – we don’t need it right now as we should be harvesting and anymore will potential spoil everything!
No time to sew for me at the moment. Hoping to steal some time after Tuesday to put something together as we have a dance concert to attend.
Meleliza I understand the exasperation – I’m having withdrawal symptoms doing other things and being in the same room as the machine! Tell him he needs to help if he wants to spend time with you – get him to pin things or something lol!
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOk so, 1.40am is not the best time to be sewing but …. I finally finished the apple picking dress and the sketchbooks shirt. Unfortunately the shorts turned out too small – my fault for choosing a smaller size. But I think I’m quite in love with the style and will certainly make more in the proper size this time and possibly use the pattern to make much needed school shorts for next year.
I’m currently charging the camera so will be uploading a photo shortly to show everyone. The size 12 on the dress was perfect and I didn’t realise that she has quite a bit of space to move. I’ll certainly be using this pattern again – alot!
I shortened the sleeves slightly as I didn’t know how hot the weather would be – turned out to be mild after some rain we had over night. I really should not have shortened the sleeves as they turned out a little too tight at the top of the elbow. That is just a note to self for next time.
The style is super pretty. I love it!
So with that all over and done with, next I have some more shirts to make, a hot pink Sunday brunch sized up and a floral (you’ve seen the print before) Music class shirt to go with it and I squeezed out a music class skirt from the floral I used for the apple picking dress. There is plenty to go on with … after next week.
Ok so don’t let me hog the spot here, do share and tell us what are you sewing now?
13 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviThings are moving gruesomely slowly, as I’m busy with school, and on top of that everyone here is sick. I’m working on a knitting project that I thought for sure would’ve been done a month ago, but life intervened. Taking little breaks every so often to sew, just to keep a hand in. Finished a PJ top but haven’t had a chance to make the trousers, and my poor kid really needs new PJs badly. The most recent O+S season is the one I’ve been most excited about since I first discovered them, so it’s awfully painful not be able to dive right in and make everything. The Apple-Picking dress I started picturing when I got the first sneak peek is progressing at the pace of molasses on crutches. So far I have some, but not all, of the pieces cut, and the longer ruffle sewn but not hemmed. Hopefully I will see my child in this dress someday, and not have to wait for a grandchild, though at this pace it’s no cert.
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaI hear you. With 5 of us, one in preschool and another in Kindergarten, I’m starting to think that sick is just the normal mode of life. We’ve all had one cold after another and just when we might all get better, it starts all over again. Ugh. But I did manage to get finally get pictures up of a really special tiny dress and I’ve nearly finished this quick Lisette top too. I’d like to try a class picnic top in some flannel from my stash. Wouldn’t that make a cozy winter play outfit? But I did promise hubby I’d take a break. Hmmm. I’d better go help him with the construction clean up.
13 years ago LINKmle bb @mle bbWell, I have finished two of the four sets of Bedtime Story Pajamas and one Ice Cream top for Lucy with an After-School Shirt cut out and ready to sew. I am loving making Lucy some clothes with vintage sheets (often from my Grandmother) they are so flowery and fun! I hope to finish the other two sets of pajamas within the next week and have a cousin’s photo shoot…right, like I could get two four year olds and two two year olds to stand still…maybe a video 🙂
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaI have discovered that lollipops keep small children happy for a good long stretch and look cute in photos. You can tell I’m on child number three by the amour f shameless bribery that goes on in our house!
13 years ago LINKmle bb @mle bbooh thanks for the tip! I’m sure their mothers won’t mind and the jammies aren’t white so stains won’t be a big issue 🙂
