What are you sewing now?

We should start a knitter’s club! Seems like lots of do other fiber crafts on the side.
Jay, a new machine sounds so exciting! What do you have in mind?

Yes Sarvi, a knitters’ club would be great!
I’m overseas and away from my sewing machines again but have been quite productive with my knitting needles during these cold Italian evenings. The knitting is always a good time filler during long-haul flights plus you have something to show at the end of 24+ hours.10 years ago LINK

I’m in the process of trying to make the swoon cardigan fit my shape. The back piece is done, I’m nearly finished the side piece then just the centre front and sleeves to go. Each piece has at 3-4 mods on it and some have to be taken over all pieces! I hope it works as I bought some lovley drapey stretch lace when I was in Melbourne on the weekend to make a couple of dressier ones from.

Now I’ve made all the changes to the pattern I realise I don’t have enough of any of my knits to make the first go in 🙁

I just started a new project this morning that I’m very excited about– I picked up a raspberry cashmere sweater at Goodwill ($2!!) that is a women’s small. Heavenly soft. Ran it through a hot wash and dry, and I’m using it as the bottom part of an Ice Cream top to be worn as a layering piece– my 4yo is anti-sweater at the moment but in the past has happily worn a wool Ice Cream top over a long sleeve tee. The yoke is from a fat quarter of Nani Iro brushed twill, lined in shot cotton. I can’t wait to finish! It’s a quick one, since there won’t be any side seams or hemming to do.

The Ice Cream does sew up well in wool.
I made two more Hopscotch dresses for my baby girl today.

By adding a contrast pattern and fabric at the front I was able to make up the cardigan! It’s a winner I wore it all day yeaterday and it dresses up leggings very well 🙂

I made another two Hopscotch’s, one more dress and a tee. I cut a Hopscotch skirt/Tea Party dress combo from some very soft linen/cotton fabric.

Sarvi- I’m having real trouble deciding. I was hoping to find dual voltage machines and take them home in three years, but none of the machines I like are dual… yet!
I’m currently looking at a juki tl2000 q, semi industrial high speed straight stitch, and a baby lock Laura overlocker. I’ll also need a machine for zigzag and buttonholes, but I haven’t settled on that yet. Possibly a juki hzl f400.10 years ago LINK

After some more deliberation, I think I’ve decided.
Juki tl2000qi straight stitch,
Juki HZLf300 everything else machine,
And Juki MO654de overlocker. And I think I’ve found somewhere to test them out. 🙂If I’m going with juki I might as well make it the full set!

Today’s sewing has consisted of:
1 hour cobbling Lucy’s Sheepie (her security blanket) back together – she has many, many sheepies, but only one Sheepie 😉 – it is really disintegrating at a rapid rate…
1 hour making alterations to a RTW tee that Harry bought for himself the other day. Rosie (unfortunately) has introduced both the boys to her favourite (cheap & nasty) chain shop (Factorie) – but both the boys are way too small still for their clothes – hence the alterations, which required changing overlocker threads, twin needle, etc….sigh….
What I would like to be sewing: the hem on my new Celestial dress (Pattern Fantastique, a new Melbourne company)

Justine-We finally convinced BK to give up her special blanket (Yellow) as it was about to start falling apart. I’ve washed it and put it away in her keepsake box. I think I’m more sad than she is…she was my only kid with a special lovey.
I’m partway through a clever Charlotte orchid blouse for my middle girl. And I had a special request to make a pleather moto jacket for my 15 year old. She wants it for a school dance that’s tomorrow evening…we’ll see!
