What are you sewing now?

Oh, Sharon, that list makes me exhausted. I just started stressing out over how I was going to finish her coat and my jacket and still have time to do her Easter dress in the next two weekends! Then, I find out that the cousin hosting Easter “will have an outside egg hunt for the kids, but you should know we don’t have landscaping and very little grass, just mud.” wtf does that mean? Who expected landscaping? And if it’s so muddy, what are the kids going to hunt in? I’m totally confused.
Anyway, in the spirit of not buying stuff, I’ve decided this is the year I will sew up the piece of car print Liberty I’ve been hoarding, yes the one Purl Bee used to make the little boy ties. The question is, do I make them ties or Art Museum vests? There’s just one meter, I think.
And how will I keep the mud off? 😉

That’s funny meleliza, how would any children be able to search for Easter eggs in mud?? It would make the hunt easy but very messy. I think my kids would have to skip it.
Well I found the right buttons up the road, vintage ones like I was wanting, and they look great with the fabric. I ma almost done sewing the over’all’s too! Yippy Yay!! So this is my first project since surgery and it’s going smoothly, I couldn’t ask for anything more.

I almost finished two knit dresses tonight. One for each girl. I haven’t hemmed them yet as they are currently in bed asleep and I want to see them on before I go ahead and hem them.
Next up is a Garden Party tunic for Sofia and a hoodie for Isabel (no pattern for this, I’m going to have to wing it).

I’m working on the no Tie Scarf and taking pictures at each step so I can make a reference. Once you work out how it all fits together it’s a very easy sew 🙂

I have to take measurements again as I have lost the spot where I wrote them all down before. I have some mystique print to use on myself – thinking traveller shirt or even tunic length if there is enough fabric. Would really love to measure, alter the pattern, cut and sew this today and because it is Friday, it should be accomplishable.

Finally made a date with a friend for some baby clothes she wants for her new niece. I’ve been dragging my feet and agonizing over fabric choices, it’s a relief to have somebody help pick. Fabric prepped, now to cut.

I have not long got back from the assembly – it was great! But both kids wanted to go home again! Five more days until school holidays and we are ALL ready for a break.
The weekend will be my only chance to sew for me. I may even have to do a rush up to Spotlight to get fabric for costumes for this attendance party – under the sea and both want to be sharks! I have a fish costume I have had for so long so I am hoping it will still fit both. Plus there was an announcement of free dress day next week also. Well at least the sewing next week will be kid related so I may aswell register for kcw after all. I had just one missing piece from a pair of class picnic shorts I had half made that I made the mistake of showing Imogen last night. She was supposed to wear boardshorts as a fundraiser and they could have been it. Where does one draw the line on the sewing? After such a busy week of running around and feeling beyond the need for sleep by 7.30pm, something has to give. I will still make them once I locate the missing waistband part but I still face the wrath of the child after school – bad mummy very bad mummy!
I’m going to go and eat and then get stuck into remeasuring and sorting out this traveller pattern.

I had a little brainwave today and I am feeling rather clever.
It is my nephew’s daughters first birthday this weekend and they requested a dress.
I made her a Seashore dress for Christmas (well, I made two, the first was too small). I made a 3T which fits around but is too long.
I wondered about an Ice Cream dress but we are coming into winter.
So, I have decided to draft the size 2T Play Time tunic and she can wear it as a dress!
The Twins chose some Tula Pink Feathers fabric.
The bonus is, Tildy measures a 2T so I can make one up for her!
I have some oh-so-soft sheepy printed brushed cotton I purchased yesterday, Kokka I think….
I am well pleased with myself!

Today I am going to write in my January 2015 calendar that it’s actually never to early to start on Easter stuff. And then I’m going to power through lining my Round Trip jacket and her coat. Because I haven’t even cut her Easter dress yet! I still have to finalize what I want.

You’ll get it done meleliza!
I finished up the over’alls, they are so cute! Caspian really loves them too so I need to make a play pair for him as well. They came together rather quickly too. Next up his jacket!
11 years ago LINKAs it turns out, the size 8 Moss skirt IS too small. I considered wadding it but decided that there was an easy fix. I cut out the serged side seams and cut two wedge-shaped panels to insert at the sides. The skirt is a navy/light blue pinstripe and I turned the stripes horizontally for the wedges, which is a detail I would totally appreciate in a RTW skirt. Now it will fit properly, but I have to redo the waistband and then measure and cut a new hem band. Hoping to finish this tonight and tomorrow so that I can spend Sunday planning and cutting for KCW.
This KCW will definitely just be the one hour per day. If I can manage that I will consider it an accomplishment. I would like to sew DS an Art Museum ensemble (the one he will wear as ring bearer in his aunt’s wedding this summer; it can do double-duty for Easter as long as I take it off him before he gets into the chocolate!), and I think I will make a couple of Izzy Tops (free pattern from Climbing the Willow blog) for the girls (who will be wearing RTW for Easter *gasp* 😉 ). I don’t dare aspire to more than that.

That’s a really cute top RTWG! I want to make one too for Sarah….I wonder if I have any fabric at the house that would cute with this pattern.

I finished the scarf! Now I’m printing off the 6m to 4 playtime dress and leggings, although it may be a while before I get to them but I might just make a few pairs because they’re quick 🙂
I want to make the second muslin for the wedding cape today so I have it when we go fabric shopping tomorrow. Not overly excited about the choices available in our local Spotlight, the flannels are of especially poor quality 🙁 , but I’m sure we’ll find something.

I have managed to alter the traveller dress to my measurements on the front and back pieces and now I just have to work on the sleeve to make sure that is fine before going ahead and making a muslin. It has warmed up again today so I am currently deciding what to do re sleeve length for this one. I might do elbow length and then do longer ones for next time.

Heidi, my dress maker had a cape similar to the one you are making to cover the wedding gowns. It think your idea is a fantastic one to take the second muslin shopping with you.
RTWG the izzy top looks very similar to the icecream top, don’t you think?
Can’t wait to see that Round trip jacket Meleliza! Would love to make one myself.
Ok, pattern altered and currently waiting to be cut on the “muslin” which I hope will become wearable. I have been dragging my feet but now have the energy to get back to it. Here’s to late sewing on a Saturday night.
