What are you sewing now?

I hope its by machine!
Finished Zara’s shorts and instead of hand-sewing the facing in place, I have stitched in the ditch on the right side and caught the facing that way.
As these will be washed and worn at least twice a week they need to be sturdy. I did use Liberty for the facings. Who says sturdy cannot be pretty?

Overlocked rolled hem! There’s no way I would do it by hand, I wouldn’t be able to use my hand for weeks if I did! And I wore my swirl skirt all afternoon, definitely a success 🙂

I swear, sometimes laundry only gets done in my house because I have fabric I want to wash.

Melanie, I use a bulk wash powder from the Stock Agent for everyday washing but I have special powder and fabric softener for my material.

Makes me happy.
I cut out Tildy’s Garden Party last night, so excited, I am sewing it to co-ordinate with her Elmer Secret Agent trench.
I just need to sew Hugo’s school trousers first…..

I spent all afternoon cutting and sill have more to go. I’m working on Kitty’s Easter coat and a Round Trip jacket for me. I have the main pieces cut, but have to cut interfacing and lining. I don’t have enough of the lining fabrics I really want to use, so I’m trying to decide what to do with what I’ve got. Do I want to line the sleeves or just the body? I do have some scraps of Liberty that really coordinate nicely with my link linen, though, so I’ve made some bias strips to edge the facings and stuff.
I was good though, before I started this I mended/finished four other items!
11 years ago LINKHa ha – I am the same about laundry Melanie! I don’t procrastinate when there is fabric involved.
I am on a Field Trip tear. I made the cargoes and two tees for baby boy, then last night at 9 p.m. I cut out a third tee out of some scraps of velour and interlock. I sewed the pieces together and put the neckband on but then stopped because I want to applique something on the front and I haven’t decided what. And it was only 9:30. Such a fast sew!

Is it fun to sew for a boy after girls?
I made a good start on Hugo’s trousers, its a Vogue pattern I have made a few times which helps but such long legs to manoeuvre.
I really want to finish them and start a dress.

So I’m totally out of stuff I normally use for interfacing in collars and facings. I’m working with a linen/cotton blend for K’s Easter coat and I would like to use cotton batiste for my interfacing, but I’ve only got scraps left! For heavier stuff, I sometimes use good quality muslin, which I do have, but I think this will be too heavy for the linen. Ugh. I could try Fabric Row, but can’t always get it there. Plus, it’s like stupidly cold today after a nice spring weekend. 🙂 I don’t really want to go out…. I have pink batiste for the dress and for the coat lining, but I’m not sure it’s enough for any more. Why didn’t I just order enough fabric in the first place?
For the Round trip jacket, I have just enough scraps of silk lining, but if kinda rather have a cotton lining there too, except for the sleeves.
11 years ago LINKThat’s frustrating, Melanie.
Nicole, I admit I wasn’t that excited to sew for my son, but now that I’ve begun, it is quite fun. I’m pretty happy with the raglans I made for him and am wanting to make some Sailboat pants in a linen stripe I have; I just need to figure out the best way to alter for a cloth diaper since I had zero success getting the pants to fit my girls when they were in diapers, even sizing up. Maybe I need to add a gusset.

I’ve just purchased the new Garden Party, Hide and Seek, and Cappuccino patterns. All digital and I’m having them printed as the full size sheet today. Hope to pick them up this afternoon and start tracing tomorrow. I may give the pinwheel a go first, though. I really want to try making the dress with both flounces.

I am so glad you popped in and answered over at the Pinwheel ‘hack’ thread. Re-designing patterns is so not my thing, Sandi!
I found if I put a bodysuit on Tildy the Sailboat pants were okay, but if I used a singlet they dragged her nappy down (and off)!
I finished Hugo’s trousers but not before making two big mistakes.
I press the pockets to the back (by mistake) and topstitched and reinforced them before I realised (a LOT of re-enforcing think cotton webbing sewn over the seams). I got around this by pressing them back to the front.
There is a bit of a ‘lip’ but as a gentleman shouldn’t walk around with his hands in his pockets we should be fine.
Then I stitched the fly facing(which I added to the pattern) on the wrong side. That HAD to be removed. I had topstitched and re-enforced that too. Think an hour of unpicking navy on navy at 9 pm at night.
They look so nice on and he loves them so much. I used a fine corduroy and reversed the nap and lined the pockets with a Japanese lawn.
Now I can sew a pretty dress!

I am still waiting for the paper patterns to arrive, shouldn’t be too long now. I did receive the other two issues of Ottobre design through the mail yesterday though – both from last year – and got busy over a cuppa looking for inspiration. I think they will both be well used issues.
I love the neckline for the Cappuccino pattern, but then I have the simplicity version also and I love that too. Can’t wait to make it, hopefully will get the chance later in the week.
So many pretty versions of the latest dresses popping up. Have fun sewing your pretty dress for Tildy, Nicole.

I washed fabric too today: some decorator weight for sofa pillow covers, gray twill for Field Trip cargoes for my 18 mo old, and solid black and lime green broadcloth for a long-sleeved, button-down, knock-off Wrangler shirt for him also…..as conceived by his big brothers :-)Kinda cheesy and totally not my style, but it will make my big boys happy. I will use the Sis Boom Ethan shirt pattern, I’ve used it before and really liked it.

Looking forward to see that pretty dress Nicole!
I stocked up on knits ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/isabeldecibel/13365079294 ) this weekend when the husband and I drove to a 7500 sq feet fabric store 100 km away from where we live.
I wish we could have taken a picnic along but the girls were at my parents’ and we wanted to pick them up at a decent time.
This morning I bought the Cappuccino and Garden Party patterns as PDFs. I printed them on A4s and will have a cut and tape party at home tonight 😉 Maybe I could give the glue stick a chance ..
I have one Skater Dress cut out and one Hide-and-Seek in the pipeline. Not sure which to start on.
