My Cape is nearly finished but I seem to have sewn the arm hole wonky 🙁 I may need to unpick and resew.i think the problem was trying to sew them in the round. I think I should have just sewn them flat like top stitching.

Rtw girl, I have a note in my sketchbook from last year reminding me to start early on spring stuff because once the nice weather hits, we are out enjoying it as much as possible. This means I get very little sewing done in the spring, although I tend to forget that in the winter. I’m finishing up a Liestte traveller tunic in flannel shirting. After that, it’s all spring, all the way. I cut an ice cream dress in some black chambray from my stash (must do lots of stash sewing this year!) and figure it can work now with layers and later too.

For middle one’s ninjago costume, I was thinking of some cheap rayon challis I found online. It will drape, but not be too hard to work with, light weight so he can wear it whenever and be washable. Plus, it comes in that bright obnoxious Lego blue he has to have. Baby girl is desperate for a Brave costume and I think I found just the right blue stuff. But I need something gold for the blouse part. Wouldn’t it be nice if it sparkled just a little?

meleliza, I had to make my one of my middle boys a Ninjogo ninja costume a few years ago, I used flannel for his so it could work as pj’s. I did really enjoy making it and he still wears it all the time. Well worth all the effort in sewing it! I think costume sewing is my very favorite though. : )

I can’t wait to see yours!

Yes, I like it too. You know I don’t really enjoy sewing too much for the boys, but costumes I do like. I will make Phil something special for his First Communion, like the art museum vest in white silk or fine linen.

I have always thought that doing a vest in linen featuring a drawn thread work method such as Hardanger would look amazing for a boy’s special occasion outfit.

I’m making another messenger bag! This time paired right down, no pockets, just the front, main flap and sides. Mainly because I started after work and want It ready for work tomorrow. I have used a navy lined curtain for the outside and some sort of ripstop type nylon inside in fluro pink! Hopefully this will be water resistant and keep my books dry at the pool.

I have almost finished Sarah’s strawberry dress for this year. Yep, I spent most of yesterday sewing! All I have to do is attach the skirt to the bodice and I am done. Missy ordered a dress she seen on the Cottage Mama but she wanted the pink fabrics. I love how Sarah knew all the colors briar rose fabrics come in! She has been wanting me to order them for a while now and when she was squealing over a that dress I had to buy them. So much for not buying any more fabric for her……

Then onto to some new born baby sewing for my wee little nephew and hopefully a matching outfit for my 2 year old nephew. Some things for Caspian then onto the Chantilly dress for me!! I am most excited about get to this dress!

Tamara, what an interesting idea! You have my wheels turning now. How to make it look like a big boy, though…. I’m thinking now.

Sharon, I would like to see that dress. I have some strawberries too that I’ve been saving for spring.

I didn’t use an O+S pattern this time. The dress was great to sew but I do not like the way the bodice finishes on this pattern though. I going to change it up next time to finish up more like the Fairy tale pattern.

Oh my goodness, you are off and running Sharon! You must be feeling so much better which is really positive to hear.

The messenger bag is a great pattern to use Heidi. Glad you are getting so much use out of it.

Meleliza, maybe just something simple like a cross at the chest or if you can wrangle it hardanger self covered buttons. It doesn’t have to be huge to make it look big boy. But at the same time could give you some inspiration for this little business of yours to stretch to boys wear also (wink nod).

Actually come to think of it, it doesn’t even have to be hardanger. Just do some simple pulled thread even. I am wondering how the pocket part would go with embellishment. Might be fiddly but could look extra charming.

Not sewing right now. We are relocating on the weekend so am extremely busy giving orders to children and the husband over what they have to do to help me transport this house up the road! The sewing room up there is still getting window sills so won’t be up and running for another few weeks but in the meantime, I will still have to make a few things in the current location – in my sleep! Who said they were killing sewing fairies? I think mine have died from neglect!

I love the messenger bag, Tamara! This was my 5th one.

I sorted out the armholes on the cape, a bit of unpicking and a lot of steam! And I have made a bear puppet, well except for the final hem, that’s another 2 from LTTS. Once I get the pictures up 🙂

I can’t believe that is the muslin Lightning. Are you counting it as wearable?

I feel inspired! And I am wondering what fabrics in my stash could pull this one off successfully. Need something to go with my skirt I made last year (the one I still haven’t taken pics of and is threatening to be too big). It might be a quick and easy one to whip together as a moving stress relief project.

I’ve worn it all day today, so yes, I’m counting it as wearable!

I’m far too impatient to make anything in order to take it apart again, so I can’t ever see myself making a real muslin. Maybe if I ever tried to make something super fitted.

I figured this blouse was meant to be light and loose. I measured myself enough to know that I didn’t have enough chest to warrant any bust adjustments.

What I wanted to know was: Could I handle such a fabric? Would the pattern allow me to do hairline or French seams everywhere? (answer is no unless you can figure out some other way of attaching the facing at the shoulders). If not how would I finish seams on such a fabric, I knew I wouldn’t like the short sleeves, but would I like the 3/4 length? and finally would it fit?

I found the fabric as a $9 remnant and could only just eek out the full garment with literally nothing left to spare. If it hadn’t worked I would have happily binned it and tried again.

I have another slightly more special fabric that I’ll use as another practice run, this time the full length dress.

Then finally I have some vintage silk that my grandmother brought back from japan in the 50’s. That’s what I’m nervous about cutting, hence the multiple practice goes.

if you don’t choose a fabric that needs pattern matching then it would be a nice, simple blouse to sew. Go for it. I think too, if the fabric is really light and drapey then it works even if it’s a bit oversized. I’m not sure I’d be happy with how big this is if it wasn’t see through.

I love your shirt you just made McStitch! it’s gorgeous, even if it is a try out version. : )

I did mange to get sewing done yesterday, I wasn’t feeling so good so I kept it simple and quick. I also was able to get my Chantilly dress traced off too! The muslin fabrics are washed and waiting to be pressed. I am making a wearable muslin for this dress in a peach gauze. While peach is not my favorite color to wear it was my price. ; ) I am so excited to cut into the good fabric but I want to ensure a good fit before I do.
