What are you sewing now?

I’m thinking I might make an Elsa, Frozen, Hopscotch dress tonight. I’m just having trouble deciding on the size, ie who to make it for.

I finished (and salvaged) the houndstooth Washi today. Then mended one of hubby’s shirts, and then got to work on the princess dress. Finally figured out how I wanted to trim the armholes … and just as I sewed the last stitch, my machine ground to a painful halt. All that remains on the dress is to attach the skirt to the bodice, which I can do on my serger. But I have not a clue what is wrong with my machine – sob.

I wonder if there is a piece of thread somewhere it shouldn’t be in your machine.

Oh No! RTWG, how frustrating! Has the lint been cleaned out and the bobbin oiled? No sewing machine is so frustrating, there’s only so much that can be done on the serger.

I am part way through my Elsa dress, it’s looking just how I envisaged 🙂

DH and I went out last night so I didn’t have time to do anything but clean out the shuttle and poke around in there (no loose threads that I can see, though the machine was bird nesting a little before it shut down and I had already checked the threading, it was fine). Today I will take the top off, do a good clean and oil and see what’s what. I do have another sewing machine and I will set it up in the meantime – I’ve also put the word out to see whether there is a sewing machine repairman who would be willing to come to my house. I can’t take it to a shop as this country is on 220v and my machine is a 110v (I use a voltage converter at home).

Glad to hear there’s a backup RTWG!

Just the hems to finish on the hopscotch but we have had a summer storm blow in, so the machines are unplugged and no sewing. I think I’ll do some tracing and modifications this afternoon instead!

So, this is odd. Last night I took out the needle, the bobbin and bobbin case and dusted out the shuttle. I tried the machine again and it still would barely budge and made that awful grinding noise. I didn’t have time to work on it further, and then I left it overnight. This morning I opened up the top, and gave the handwheel a turn to see what would happen – and it worked! I went ahead and oiled it up, then finished sewing the princess dress with no problems. It’s like little elves came to my house overnight and fixed the machine. I wonder what happened?

Anyway, hooray, that belabored princess dress is finished! Now I need to make a cape and a scabbard for the recipient’s brother. I have a Sew Liberated pattern and some tan velour for the cape, and I bought some faux leather for the scabbard.

I’ve finished my Elsa dress! And I just have a little hand sewing to finish off my new skirt for me! I even made a fitted waistband by tracing one from another skirt and it worked! I just need to sew the facing to the invisible zip.

Then to make 1″ wide double fold bias binding to finish off the faux chinelle blanket! Today is a day for finishing things off 🙂

In between the pre moving preparations, I am going to stop, take a breath and trace those bathers patterns after all today. That is before I head in to help in woodwork (I am learning heaps for the reno). I told the kids washing one pair of swimmers everyday is not doing any good and they have to have two pairs! They said nothing which is fab! Because they normally have an answer for everything.

It might be my last opportunity to actually sew something for a little while so I will jump at the chance.

Tracing today and cutting/ sewing tomorrow and Friday. Thursday is the day we run around like silly chooks and get quotes on air conditioning, ovens, paint colours and decent flooring!

Just an off topic question, what would you put on the floor of a sewing room that is concrete? Laminate planks to resemble wood, ceramic tiles or vinyl? Unfortunately I don’t get a lovely wooden floor in that room.
