What are you sewing now?

We had a pool at home and if we swam before 3pm a tshirt was mandatory or we didn’t swim! And before 2pm it was sunscreen as well!
I’ve finally made a start on my school photo dress for the sew along! It’s taken me a couple of days to get there but I am loving the pattern 🙂 I have The whole front sewn without any embarrassing placed flowers!

I tried the princess dress bodice on the recipient on Friday – sob, it is too small. I did not realize how much thicker she is (not chubby, just thick) than my girls. I cut out a new bodice but now I am not really “feeling” it. Yesterday the hubs and I went to a movie (the Hobbit, excellent) and I wore my Late Lunch tunic. As the baby is starting to drop a few feedings (sob, again), things have shifted around a bit and the tunic fits better in the chest. So today I cut another one (with a few more modifications) out of a plaid double-faced gauze I had bought for a Traveler tunic. I’m nearly done with the top of the tunic now but I think the rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

Lucky you Heidi! I really would love a pool here as it hit 48.9 degrees c on the back verandah of the homestead on Saturday! And yes t shirts were mandatory for us too!
I am feeling much better thanks RTWG! Hate it when heat makes you ill despite doing all the right things. I know I said I was going to sew yesterday but I didn’t. I still wasn’t feeling wonderful so I went and did some inspirational online window shopping and made a sort of scratchy list of what I would like to sew this year.
Today it will be much cooler (because watch out girls the heat is heading east) so I will take advantage and actually move around. Because of the catastrophic fire warnings over the last two days we haven’t been able to do any sheep shifting so we had to give the shearers a day off in order to go and get the sheep off adjistment. I don’t have to do this thankfully but I do have to get into town so hopefully after that I can take advantage of looking through my bella sample book to sort out what solids need to be included in the stash so that the stash can actually be whittled down further (that does make sense right?)
I think I will do a selfish sewing project in between completing the table runner knuckling down to do the school things. I just need a bit of a fun project to motivate a bit more. And besides I think it should be my turn first! As to what the project will actually be I don’t know but I still have that table runner to complete so will think whilst I am finishing it off.

I was talking to friends closeish to you yesterday and they mentioned how very hot it was! The pool was lovely over summer 🙂
Planning on sewing some more of the school photo dress today.

Apparently I need to put zippers in all future pairs of trousers for N. I asked him what he would like me to sew for him this year and that was one of the specifications. That along with “farm clothes”, ie flannel shirts and “ooper dooper snooper cargos”.
I also asked about the school pants and he giggled at the thought of cheating and wearing mum made school approved trousers. So now that I have the tick of approval from him, I can add it to the list officially.
Heidi, bit concerning yesterday re all the fires about – we were on call to fight one in the morning yesterday but it was contained overnight thankfully.
11 years ago LINKFinished the tunic today and somehow it came out a bit tight on the bodice. I was able to let out about 1″ worth in the back seams, but I really could have used another inch or so. Oh well. The double gauze is just so comfortable; I want to order the other two colorways at FabricMart and make two more tunics.
Looking at myself in the mirror as I tried to fix it, though, I realized that my fashion has definitely changed. Where my single, 20s self preferred clingy tops and wide-legged or bootleg jeans, my 30s, post-three-babies self really needs loose, tummy skimming styles, and as it turns out, the skinny jeans that I had previously abhorred are the best balance for the loose tunic styles.
I have entered the realm of mom style …
I have also, apparently, entered a selfish sewing phase. I seem to be running low on “sew-jo” for kids’ clothes!

How scary Tamara! Thank goodness it was contained.
After the morning chores I have to work on Garrett’s fieldtrip pants, I hope to have the pants done today so I can get to his book bag, hubby is going to bring home the last thing I need to make his bag up today, so maybe I’ll start it this afternoon.

After all that work for my Saturday photo shoot, you’d think I’d take a sewing break, but that afternoon, I was busy cutting out another project! Children’s corner Mary De jumper, and now I’m putting in the pleating threads by hand. Meanwhile, this morning I cut out a set of Sleepover pjs in some wild Star Wars fabric for oldest son. He saw this stuff at Joann a few months ago and insisted he wanted pjs for his birthday, which is next week. The print was the nicest of the Star Wars stuff they had. And tonight, I have to look through the 500+ shots the photographer took on Saturday morning!

I saw that some Star wars fabric is actually glow in the dark! Which would be rather cool. Unfortunately my son is yet to be initiated into the Star Wars obsession. I think we have the movie somewhere in our collection we just haven’t shown the kids – the dvd part of the player doesn’t work on the family room tv – that could be the main reason. But the fabric itself would be wonderful to make pyjamas from. I’m wondering if there are other styles that would glow in the dark also.
My Bella solids card turned up so have been busy planning.
The table runner is still unfinished. I think I have been put on repeat for promising to have it finished!
The fire was on the other side of the main town the children go to school in Sharon but because it is summer, everyone is away having their holidays so even mustering four people for a relief team was a bit of an effort. It goes with the season with storms.

I’ve now finished the back of the school photo dress. I’m taking my time and really enjoying the sewing. I think this may become one of my more used dresses as it incorporates the lovley yoke/bodice with a three piece front, perfect for showcasing multiple fabrics 🙂

Hey guess what? I’m sewing! Still the table runner but I actually sewing yaaaay!
The 8 year old has given me a deadline of finishing the quilting by lunchtime so I better pull my socks up and get going! I think he might be sick of my complaining about it not being done.
11 years ago LINKBack to work on the princess dress. Just figured out how to do a rolled hem on my serger for the mesh skirt overlay, so that was a productive 20 minutes. But I still don’t know what I will do to embellish the new, larger bodice. I used up all the ribbon that I wanted to use of the dress on the first bodice and I am feeling too lazy to pick it out.

Do you have any contrasting ribbon that could do? Or even lace? Or what about beads?
Nearly finished the quilting on the table runner. Dreaming of making something for me next.

I am just finishing up my first Seashore Dress and am smitten! What a great pattern.
I decided to kick off the new year by making each person something. I have made my Portfolio, little L has her Tea Party Dress and Boo has a Seashore. My husband is being treated to new PJ’s next.
He surprised me by requesting a Negroni shirt “sometime soon?” I think he is being a darling because he knows I am itching to try the pattern.

What a sweet hubby Katybellabug! Mine would love some pj’s but I have yet to make him some.
I am almost done with Garrett’s book bag, not too bad but I had a few issues with sizing up and wee bit of an issue with the zipper but it’s all working out so far. I know he needs it so I am trying to finish it up today. I am thinking about letting his pants/shirt until I make me another top, the pattern has been out calling to me!
