Fish onesie done, if you can help it, never ever sew lamé jersey. Its horrid stuff.

I had to make up a couple of tops for the Twins as items they were borrowing for costumes fell through at the last minute. Thank goodness for a sewing stash.

So, costumes done. I hope you get yours done in time Tamara.

Hugo’s shirt just needs the buttons and button holes.

Thank you Tamara! I have to make another just like it for Wyatt for his western Christmas program now. He had one on hand but loves Garrett’s so I’ll have to make another this weekend.

I have two size 7 sketchbook pants cut out and ready to sew. I also have all my supplies to make the Puppet theater too! I am going to work on this while the bigger children are at school. I am so excited to be making it!! I sew the pants while the bigger kids are home.

My intimate date with the fairy tale dress is coming to a close. Just need to sew the lining to the zipper and create the bow for the belt. I certainly feel like I was in a relationship with this pattern. So many details!

Ok I have a question, how would it look if I made a tractor costume out of fabric? I am thinking along the lines of a square hoop holding up a tent like structure with appliqued wheels and other bits that make a tractor a tractor on it. I just figure it could be a little easier to get in and out of and to sit down in than just a simple box tractor type thing.

I even had a vision of somehow constructing somesort of mechanism to make the wheels go round! But my thoughts really need to be simplified. I have to get this completed by Monday night really so that he can use it in practise so if we need to troubleshoot we can. We have to make it compact and a box isn’t exactly compact.

Of course it will have shoulder straps and even though you don’t wear seatbelts in tractors, I might make it to look as though he is wearing one.

Other than that the plan is a pair of jeans, check shirt and mini sock savers over his boots!

I have almost finished the denim skirt. Of course it didn’t get done for yesterday’s teacher/ parent conversation but I do want to wear it Friday and hopefully I can make myself a new top too.

I think the most important thing to evoke a tractor is the BIG wheels in the back and the little wheels in the front. Well that’s what I as a city kid think when I hear “tractor”!

    And it MUST be green.

    None of that red rubbish……

Oh yes has to be green! When I think of tractors I think of green (even though we have a blue one too). We did offer the ride on for use but seeing as there will be three tractors and three headers it might be a bit squishy on stage. I was thinking of padding the wheels for extra effect – just so they look like wheels. The good old john deere emblem in its spot and we should be good to go.

So this costume is going to have dowel type rods (I will just chop up an old broom handle for that) and the fabric will fall to look like a square skirt but with tractor type wheels and stuff on it. Shouldn’t be too tricky.

Need to write a list and get Murray to go to Spotlight for me tomorrow so we can make it Saturday. Might make it shiny! So it looks like a brand new one!

Tamara, I am a little in awe that you can even conceptualize a tractor costume. My brain doesn’t work that way! Be sure you post pictures.

As for me, I had a brainstorm last night and pulled out my 3-yo’s Christmas dress from last year. It JUST buttons, but it buttons, and so I think I am going to give myself a break and just have her wear that. We’ve all been sick and I’m not quite over it. So even though I’m a little sad to let go of the dress I had been planning to sew her, it is a bit of a relief to let go of the pressure.

Today I will try to finish the Art Museum trousers to complete the set for my nephew. And then perhaps something for ME. I got the Sew Liberated Skinny Jeans pattern and I have some stretch corduroy to make them …

Oh, mine is wearing last years Christmas dress too. I should let the hem down, but it’s not too bad. She’s already worn it to church for the first Sunday in advent and she’ll wear it to the Nutcracker this weekend and for Christmas. I’m sure it won’t fit next year, although there’s plenty of length in the Fairy tale deep hem. If she loses that baby belly (sniff) I guess there’s a chance she’ll still fit. I don’t see it as giving myself a break exactly, just getting good wear. If the dress is really pretty, why shouldn’t she wear it again? I put a lot of work (not to mention splurged on Liberty fabric!) so I’m pleased she can wear it again.

I did however, make here a red wool Christmas coat to go with it. And one for the baby doll. After all, Baby doll has a matching Christmas dress, why not the coat?

And, btw, has everyone seen the gold sequined dress in the flickr pool? Sequins! *LOVE*!

I am trying to hurry up and finish up this puppet theater but my eyes are starting to hurt for all this stitching! It is looking pretty amazing though, thank you Liesl for the great pattern! A quick break then back to stitching…..

If I can get this last communion dress cut out before the weekend, I’m thinking of setting it aside and spend a day on some selfish sewing. All this white is making my eyes go funny.

Sounds lovely to sew on selfish things. : )

I managed to finish my market skirt this morning so I could wear it to the final school assembly. So comfortable! I am tempted to get started on a muslin for the next one – 1666 what’s it called again? Anyway, that is what I have decided I want to make for the Christmas festivities and if I am lucky with the balance of time I will make two!

I have sent Murray on a Spotlight run to get “john deere” green fabric, black, silver and white so we can make our tractor. What I will do whilst waiting is work on clearing up and the muslin for the skirt and peplum top so that I can get straight into it.
