What are you sewing now?

Still a severe lack of sewing going on here. I work all day and when I get home I’m either too tired or too busy with the attic to get to my machine.
However – a new fabric store opened in town just last week and I made a purchase that is sitting on my ironing board, taunting me every time I go upstairs. I would like to get started on some of it.
Playtime leggings would be on the schedule if I can carve out some sewing time.
Nicole the shorts look amazing!

I was able to get all the lamb costume cut out but it look as though I sheering sheep after I was done, this will be a hoot sew. ; ) At least the kids will have fun in all the extra fluff. I do hope to have the whole thing sewn by tonight. Wish me luck!

Tonight I made a music class skirt with the leftovers from my Lisette dress. To get a dress for me and a skirt for my daughter out of a $10 remnant is immensely satisfying.
Can’t wait to see this little lamb!

Tamara, congratulations on your win! Did you post any pictures? I’d really love to see it.
I am finishing up an autumn dress for myself before the real costume work begins this weekend. I’ve agreed to do a really special witch costume for a friend and she come Saturday for the first fitting. I also plan a huge black cape for myself, simple costumes for the kids, another one for hubby. Plus, it will be baby girls 3rd birthday in a few weeks and she desperately wants some baby doll dresses. She’s picked out fabric too, so she’s really serious. No paths, no tops, just dresses. ๐

Oh lamb! It suits him to a tea I think – he is a lamb! Can’t wait to see.
Thankyou ladies! I didn’t take photos of them on display – forgot to pack the camera! But when I collect them on Sunday I will take proper photos then. The little white dress that one a prize wasn’t displayed well, being on the ugliest doll I had ever seen. I am going to ask the stewardesses when I collect them if I can bring my own stands and if I can I will either make them in wood or metal and have decent ones to display my things.
I want to cut things out today and overlock like I said in my earlier post. I think there won’t be a birthday dress wrapped on the table tomorrow morning but I have made her a dress already so we can count that one as the birthday dress. The weather is going to be really hot today but will cool down again next week. Having said that though I think I will still do the summer things because the chances of needing them are much greater.

Thank you!
It seem silly to be excited over a pair of shorts but with older children the fit is so important or that don’t want to wear it.
Lotta, with all the building work I am amazed you are getting anything else done.
Caspian will make the sweetest lamb, you should see if you can find an ear tag, Sharon. I can send you one of ours.
Tamara, I saw some neat stands of flickr that were made of a dowel ‘T’ screwed into a round base. They actually displayed a small garment well and would not take up to much space.
Nothing fill me with joy more then using up every little bit bit of fabric Shelly. Did you post photos?
Is it a traditional doll Melanie? I purchased Tilly a gorgeous Kate Finn doll for Christmas. Liddy has one and Matilda always look longingly at her. Both girl will be getting dolls clothes this year.
I was not expecting to get any sewing done today as I have a house full of extra girlies. However, they are up and have done all their jobs and quite a few of mine.
I need to change over the overlocking threads first……’shudders’

It’s absolutely right to get excited over fit! Especially on ourselves or gorgeous teenagers. ๐
I didn’t sew yesterday but wore my jacket all day! I think I need to scoop out the front armhole but it is very wearable. I think I need a more comprehensive book on fitting as two of the changes I made and want to make were not covered and I had to go by intuition, logic and memory.

Ugh, pretty dress on an ugly doll can definitely be off-putting. I hope you can be allowed to have your own display stand Tamara.
Not silly at all Nicole! Will you be doing the doll’s clothes sewing? I’m looking forward to see what they receive.
The building work goes in fits and starts Nicole, nothing last night and nothing tonight (we have dance class and flute class tonight – so happy that my man is home so he can take one of them). I bought a length of Indian cotton with a star motif that I plan to make into a table cloth and I think I’ll try to do that just to get started. I have black thread in my machine and that is what I planed to use so maybe it’s fate. ๐
Sharon – the lamb costume sounds really sweet. I’ll be looking for pictures of it.

Nicole the stands you are describing sound very much like what I am looking for. I would have them in different sizes for the garments and if possible have them adjustable so that I don’t have to have separate sized stands. I would think the base would be slightly bigger than that of a wooden paper towel stand. I have some that were made ages ago but they weren’t put together with any care and love and they are wonky which causes the hanger part to fall of which isn’t ideal.
Do you have the ability to embroider letters and numbers on your machine Sharon? perhaps a pic of a sheep tag so you can get the idea of what they look like? Oh and we don’t need to clip the ears do we? Is he having a tail or a stump?
I certainly hope so too Lotta. I know the ladies do their best to put up a beautiful display but really they need to retire the doll.
So I said I was going to cut things out but I ended up enlarging the bodice of the playtime dress and made one in chevron knit minus the long sleeve piece. I think it turned out well besides the fact I became rather frustrated at the knit straight stitch and the fabrics need to waver away from the crease made from pressing the sleeve hem and it has caused the side seams to pucker slightly. Nothing a wash and bit of proper pressing won’t fix I’m sure. It has been approved so I will venture forth and make one in cotton and see how we go there.
I do have to do some cutting though before Saturday as Imogen wants to sew with my mum when we are down again. So simple shorts and skirts I think – and I can do the zippers.
It is time to enlarge the patterns. I measured my eleven year old this morning and she is almost Deer and Doe measurements! Apart from the waist of course. Just want to squeeze a bit more time out of these patterns.

Oh dolly clothes sounds fun! Right now we are debating if Sarah will be getting an American Girl doll or a mama made waldorf dolly. Either dolly I will be making her clothes for it. Right now we are thinking of me making the waldorf dolly.
I have finished the pants and hat but that is as far as I got. If this had been two years ago I would have been pulling my hair out sewing this. The fabric has a bit of stretch to it but it is coming together beautifully. He has full ears and tail. I took the bear ear pattern and did a wee bit of changes to it to get eth look I wanted. It is taking a while to sew this though as I keep stopping to try it on him. : ) Caspian does looks so cute walking in his pants, the little tale waddles as he walks. Everyone is giggling and awwwing a the same time. The funny part is that Sarah wants a hat just like his too. After I finish the shirt today I’ll post some “pre-Halloween pictures for you gals.
Thank you Nicole!

I can totally understand the up sizing thing Tamara!

It certainly is a learning curve to measure and sew for a developing young lady. Amazing how just eight months can put a bit of difference into the measurements.
I think I have succeeded well with this pattern though. I have just completed a tunic in the square Heaven and Helsinki print (the one I had intended for the library dress). It looks really cute and I am hoping she will want to wear it tomorrow. The dress I made earlier was worn for the remainder of the day and now has to be washed thanks to an experiment featuring blue food colouring!
According to the weather it will be wintry conditions in Perth next week so I will take some stitching with me but leave the sewing machine at home. I have a simple shorts pattern for Imogen to use and we can raid nannie’s fabric stash instead of mine!
I am itching to try some of these Canadian smocking designs so I may take some fabric to do samples when we go again on Saturday.
Tomorrow is a no sewing day – pity you couldn’t stitch in the cinema. The gift hasn’t arrived thanks to the truck leaving Monday and not Thursday from Melbourne. So Birthday present won’t be here until Tuesday and that means we won’t pick it up until Friday – a whole week to wait! Not happy! Oh well, she gets to pick the movie and glad we don’t have to sit through one direction!
Glad you are doing a tail Sharon they are so cute when lambs wag their tails while feeding!

We have a few babies, but the favorites are Corolle and a Melissa and Doug one that is very similar but not quite as nice. The Corolle dolls have the sweetes faces. For some reason, the faces on Bitty Baby creeps me out. It’s hard to find patterns for 12″ baby dolls. I have one basic set from MacCalls that I just keep changing up a little. I have one tiny dress cut from the remains of her 1 year old birthday dress. She picked out some other fabrics too.
Meanwhile, I’m finishing up a long dress for me out of AMH field study voile. I hope it works out the way I see it in my head. Saturday, I will start in on the witch. No O+S for a little while, I think. I do plan to make a pair of Art Museum vests for Christmas as well as the sleepover pjs.
Oh, I did make a playtime dress with some Lisette lawn from a few seasons ago. I lined it to give it more substance for the cooler weather. It’s cute, but we haven’t worn it yet as the weather got warm again.

Yes voile would be great. I did these without the long sleeve part. The knit dress i just folded the sleeve hem to the inside and stitched but it didn’t work out as well as the tunic where I used a bias strip and it turned out much better.
She’s wearing the tunic over the top of her denim badminton skirt and it looks like a dress with two different hems! I wonder how it would go with the badminton hem?
