santa sacks done! yah! onto some tree decorations now…
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitGood to know you are getting through the list rastis.
I didn’t sew today because today we had a storm and now I am waiting for 9pm when the power will supposedly come back on – thank goodnes for generators or else I’d be relying on torch light to get me through the evenings events.
Tomorrow while the children are at school I plan to cut out the “scrubs” size 4 using the bedtime story pattern and the coat using the secret agent pattern. And when they are cut out and ready to sew, I will cut out some size 4 pj’s using a shortened version of the bedtime story pants and a short sleeved version of the field trip top. I plan to cut field trip tops out anyway because both kids are in need of summer clothes so doing pj’s with that pattern for little J will be just as simple and they can all be cut at the same time. Two pairs of pj’s should do the trick for a while. The fabric I ordered hasn’t arrived yet but I have plenty to choose from so when it does turn up it can be made and given at a later date.
Then that will leave the teacher gifts (paperweights with hand embroidery) and the kids’ clothing parcels which I hope to have quite a few items in this year. Still lots to do but now I have decided to not rush on the quilts and make the costume I should be able to fit it all in.
11 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaI put together the collar for my fairy tale Christmas. Not much for an afternoons sewing, I suppose, but I wanted it to be perfect. I did the sash and did all the gathering stitches too – there are a lot of those actually.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitCut out three pairs of shortened Bedtime story pj pants in a size 4 and am now tracing the size 4 field trip tshirt with short sleeves. Apparently he’s all out of pjs so three to start off with and the t shirts will be mix and match so that he can “pick” what one he wants to wear.
Next big boy and girl pj bottoms and tops.
11 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchWow there’s some serious production going on. I’m amazed at how much some of you can achieve.
I’ve managed to make the mattress and pillow cover and then a fitted sheet and pillow case for the little doll’s cradle. I’m estimating about 10 evening’s worth left of the ridiculous hand quilting still to go. it’s going to be tight!….
11 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaOh. I want to outfit her cradle too. But I’ll finish the dress and see how much time is left. MIL sent so many presents that she won’t miss the dolly quilt. I’m deter, ones to enjoy the sewing this month and not make myself crazy.
By the way, did I ever mention my boys got a kick from your screen name? Big lightning fans here!
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitPlodding a bit with the sewing I think. Need to speed up and finish off three pj field trip t shirts and shortened bottoms (bedtime story) along with the dress ups and THEN I can do the big kids pjs and dress for Monday night and all the other things tht should have been completed and haven’t. One step at a time.
11 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesWith my serger sick I went on to the 70 stocking and should be done cutting out tonight, 4 pattern pieces for each stocking. The stacks of freashly cut stocks look so lovely! 🙂
Then I am onto pj’s but not sure of how to finsh the seams now. Any ideas ladies?? Thank goodeness I have them all cut out. They kids need them for pj day at school. Their school has a Polar Express day that the whole family goes too. It so much fun! It’s on the 20th so I should have plunty of time to get them done this weekend.
11 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaWhich pjs? I tend to finish anything that gets hard wear with French seams, even if it means a little bulky here and there. Flat felled are another good option, but take more work. I sometimes do fast and dirty French seams – 1/4″ foot on the first pass, press (I never skimp on that) flip, press and then 3/8″ without stopping to trim the semas. This is good and durable for play clothes.
My babysitter just bailed on my for tomorrow morning! I was hoping to get a little sewing done and some Christmas shopping. Grr.
11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiIf you haven’t already started, french seams are a good idea, but the basic zigzag, works very well too. If you have a slightly spectacular sewing machine it may have an overlack type stitch, but be warned the one I used took ages to do.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitIf you are doing the sleepoverjs Sharon the you could do French seams seeing as they would be in flannel you could still do that and then for the facing seam you could maybe use pinking scissors to grade them down to reduce bulk and then for the outer edge of the facing just use a normal zigzag stitch before folding it under, or nothing on that edge to save time and because it it top stitched would it really matter? And then the cuffs on sleeves and legs are folded over on the, selves so the same there, take your pick on whether you want to edge it or not and the same for the bottom of the pj top. Alternatively you could bind them but I think French seams would do well.
I have neck bands on and am now about to set up the “new girl” who has been sitting patiently waiting for her turn to be played with. I want to check to see how she goes first and then I can hem the tops and move onto the bottoms. Hopefully I will have all three pairs done today.

11 years ago LINKHave to pack up the sewing machine in a week because I am heading home to have this baby! No sewing for three months – sob. I told myself the Playdate would be the last thing I sew but I couldn’t help sewing a fabric Memory game out of fabric scraps and a drawstring bag for it to go in … and last night I decided DD2 needed a new crayon roll so I’ve got the pieces for that cut out to sew during nap time. After that I will turn my attention to knitting and decide what projects, yarn and needles to take with me …
11 years ago LINKJess M. @mommy2mariaFinishing up a pair of Sleepover PJ’s for Christmas Eve. All I have left is the Snaps (have I mentioned how much I hate button holes? LOL) and stitching the hem of the sleeves. Everything else is finished! WOOT.
I’m planning another pair of Sleepover Pj’s but the fabric is under the tree (blasted hubby wouldn’t let me use it).
I’m also starting to plan a Corduroy Sunday Brunch Jacket. We’ll see how that goes.
And not sewing related, but I’m also pulling out all my O+S Patterns to see what I have in the larger sizes. Maria is starting to cross over into the bigger sizes and I’ll need to save up for my extensive replacements LOL. Luckily I can mostly make minor adjustments for now and that will last awhile.

11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitSewing has come to an abrupt halt today! Had to race into town to collect my (now not so pale) son who apparently was feeling ill. So now instead of sewing I have to hunt down the spare pair of spectacles that have disappeared right at a time when we need it – I think I will gift the teacher with a spectacle screwdriver kit for Christmas!!
