My son turned 8 yesterday. Don’t we all wonder how that happens? Who gave them permission to grow up? :). Sigh.
He’s taught me more about true selfless love than anything. I would give anything to protect my children. My husband and I half joke that if ever we have to choose in a dangerous situation, choose the child/ren over the spouse. We usually follow it with a “no offense and I love ya, but…” The other one replies, “hey the life insurance is paid.”
Now, I am alone in the house, but for the puppy. Hubby and kids are away at a family wedding, which I won’t go to. The wedding is at a camp ground 3 hours away. I am all for doing what your thing is for your own wedding, but camping with an 8 and 4 year old is work. And if I have to work at enjoying something, then it isn’t enjoyment.
Sadly, having a chewing fur baby obsessed with harassing the old lady dog and 3 cats isn’t giving me as much sewing time as I hoped.
But I will sneak what I can in! 🙂
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5There used to be a conservation park in the Adelaide Hills that had a reception centre for weddings but then you could all stay the night and see the animals. They had cabins through to tents. I always wanted to go to a wedding there!
But home alone sewing works for me too!
That spouse or children is always an interesting dinner party topic. I am in team husband, just.
I adore my children but they will leave and start their own lives, I hope my husband will stick around.
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Halfway through packing for Hols’, so excited!
AND I got my hair coloured and cut today, I am feeling throughly spoilt!
10 years ago LINKmcholley1 @mcholley1Good for you! Enjoy your time off. Does it count as a “baby-moon” if the whole family goes?
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I had that a few weekends back MC, for my 40th.
I booked this last night http://www.otwayfly.com , I just wish I could do it too! Next time…..
10 years ago LINKjay_1965vw @jay_1965vwI’ve done it Nicole, it is pretty amazing. I don’t recommend it for people who are scared of heights though – I don’t know what on earth possessed me to do it! At one point I was gripping the hand rails so hard that I couldn’t go forward…
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5They won’t let me, too pregnant!
Tildy is just tall enough to do a tandem with Hugo (my eldest), the Fab Five can’t wait. I shall have to be satisfied with the tree top walk.
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5We have left! Woo hoo, and the internet connection is amazing the closer we get to the border.
10 years ago LINKvothgirl @vothgirlI hope you have a wonderful time on holiday, Nicole!
Ben’s return date is less than 3 weeks out!!! We’re in the homestretch now…and I should start looking into things we can do as a family during his time off after he gets back. I’m thinking a 2-3 day trip to Tahoe or/and Yosemite…and I’m sure Ellie would love a trip to the zoo. He’s also compiling a list of all the things he wants me to cook when he gets back…most of them involve bacon :P. I’m thinking his favorite, chicken Marsala, and rosemary apple pie for his first dinner at home. I’ve picked up a bottle of his favorite Napa vintage as well :-).
Now to finish the surprise curtains (out of fabric sporting his alma mater’s mascot) for his home office/computer room before he gets home!
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I am so glad he will be home soon Patricia, I keep trying to tell my husband about you but tear up too much (hormones) you are amaze balls as my good friend Britters would say!
Well, the Fab Five had a fabulous time at the Rain Forest park. Tildy was j u s t tall enough to tandem with Jed.
It was a bit wet and rainy but they had raincoats. Hugo had a blast, he went with a older group of young men and I think they were pretty gung ho!
I ended up staying back at our apartment and went for a walk and had several big sleeps. That was pretty awesome too!
10 years ago LINKjay_1965vw @jay_1965vwOh Patricia, I’m so glad it is really close now. Chris hasn’t been deployed since just before we were married (It was actually good timing, as a) it gave me wedding money, and b) I had pretty much full control over the wedding plans since he wasn’t there!). I can’t imagine him being gone now we have kids – let alone having a new baby!
Glad the airwalk went well for your family, Nicole! Enjoy that nice internet connection 😀
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Just went to Erksines Falls http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/great-otway-national-park/things-to-do/erskine-falls
I thought I was going to give birth half way back up, but it was amazing!
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Nearly home now, holidays always go too quickly, don’t they?
Victoria is a truly beautiful state of Australia.
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitYes holidays do tend to speed by. I think they go just as fast for us as they do the kids. We were supposed to escape to Perth yesterday but I had the last of the four of us to succumb to this bug that hit. Fortunately there was just the tummy ache and lots of sleeping even though we thought we had to cancel the trip.
Not so! This morning as I was playing with fabric and dreaming of rainbow leggings, my daughter came into the sewing room sobbing her heart out and pleaded with me for us to still go. How could I resist? So after a careful and quick consult with the hubby, I phoned the other end and informed them we are on our way after all.
We won’t go home until after the appointments are completed and yes that means missing most of the first week of school. But when you consider the cost of fuel and two lots of 900km round trips, I think people will understand.
I will have huge sewing withdrawal during the week I know it. But I have the knitting to keep my thoughts at bay and will be itching to get busy with the sewing machines upon my return.
10 years ago LINKjay_1965vw @jay_1965vwDrive safely, Tamara!
