Perth royal show is trying to rustle up newbies to enter by thinking up “novelty” sections in each of the types of exhibition competitions in the creative crafts and cookery categories. Last year they had a scarecrow section to celebrate the year of the farmer. This year it is all about the cow! So for example, in the embroidery section you have to embroider something featuring a cow. In the fashionwear (aka dressmaking) section it is to make an item with a cow as the main feature. My mum gave me some flannelette from her stash which just happens to have cows on it…. But it could incorporate the whole outfit or just part – I’d like to see the outfit being the cow myself!

Oh my, that’s a challenging one. Holsteins seem pretty popular in quilting cotton right now. I could see embroidering a pretty guernsey in a meadow with some wild flowers.

D’you think it is challenging? I must be thinking rather simply then. I mean there are no cattle on our property for me to draw from but I am looking at things such as smocking plates and Inspirations and even my collection of cross stitch books for inspiration. There are a few great things out there but it take a bit of looking if you don’t possess them. I guess that is where it is challenging. It will be interesting to see what is turned out.

Does it have to be clothing?
How about a LTTS cow back pack?
You could make a dangly stylised udder as a coin purse.

In the fashion wear section yes! It says “any garment”. If the udder was attached then it could pass for applique.
But it is a fabulous idea!
I had a similar idea but as a cotume! That way the “cow would be the clothing”.
Still thinking further!

Nicole, the bag idea is a definite I think – they propose a bag in the patchwork quilting section. It would be perfect thamk you!

That is pretty challenging clothing wise. We see leopard or zebra or even giraffe in clothing pretty often, but I find it hard to imagine cow Inspired clothes. Well, obviously kids things with appliqué. Maybe they’re looking for a western or rodeo look? I wonder what they’d do with cow on project runway?

Here you go, Tamara http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/new-york-fashion-week-faux-pas-or-fashion-forward/2011/09/15/gIQALN08XK_gallery.html#photo=2 Check out picture 2. I would totally do the cow pencil skirt. Love the description of “randy cowgirl.”

Nicole, you’re hilarious. I so need a dangly stylised udder as a coin purse. I’m still laughing!

See this is where it is left open to the imagination. The skirt part of that outfit would be just right.

Ah, I missed these nice comments — we had popsicles, skipping stones, playing with stamps. All the best bits, with dad taking kiddo out in the morning so I got to sleep in 🙂 Hope everybody had a perfect day!

Breakfast in bed, not pancakes which was planned. Handmade presents and cards – the best!!
Went to celebrate a friend’s daughter’s tenth birthday at their house, an hour away and once again became confused over which cocky gate was the correct one! Had heaps of fun at the party.
Got home and rustled up dishes and things, grabbed the slow cooker pot and out to deliver dinner to the husband and father in law (we ate too) working up ready to crop. Then back home after some ute swapping to put kids to bed and make sure school bags were ready etc.
Busy and non stop but worth it!
Glad you are getting the much needed rain Nicole! We had close to 40mm the other day.
