I have the same stuff! I was thinking a simple summer tank. I also want to make a baby sized bubble out of it.
10 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesThat pattern would work really great Nicole, I think the drape of the fabric would look lovely with this top, I don’t know why I forgot all about this pattern company.
Is it not the greatest fabric meleliza?! I really love it and want a great top made out of it but of the choices for patterns is making it so hard!
10 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaIt is really pretty, but I’m afraid really of the moment. I hope I get to it this season.
10 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaOoo, what about that waffle halter top??!!!
10 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_Knowlesmeleliza, that’s what I am thinking now too!
10 years ago LINKMel @MelMy sister is getting married in the summer and my two girls are “flower girls” (sort of). They are age 9 and 6. Here’s a pic of the fabric, crepe back satin in amethyst and silver: https://www.flickr.com/photos/50842074@N08/13950844068/
I have 3.5m of the purple and 1.3m of the grey. I was initially thinking fairy tale but now maybe garden party. Does anyone have any suggestions?
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5What ideas have you come up with Mel?
10 years ago LINKmcholley1 @mcholley1I like the idea for an open back as well for the flower girls b/c you will be seeing a lot of their back walking/standing up front. You can easily scoop out the back of the fairytale. This is what we did for my sister-in-law’s wedding last fall. Basically, the yoke is fully lined and has a bit of an overlap and then some well placed buttons and snaps held the whole thing in place. https://www.flickr.com/photos/35277885@N06/10540904133/in/photostream/ The grey fabric was duchess satin and we ran into the issue of it being too heavy for a traditional sash. This is what we came up with. The sash was gathered into a flat front at the side seams to reduce the bulk on my 6year old. https://www.flickr.com/photos/35277885@N06/10540697164/in/photostream/
10 years ago LINKMel @Meloh that’s lovely! is the whole bodice lined in the grey satin? The wedding is in August and it’s usually very hot (like over 35C) where it’s taking place so I’d worry about the kids melting in two layers of polyester, lol! I’m sure I could do a partial lining in cotton and then a sort of facing in the satin where it turns back. I really like the look of that. Is the sash sewn into the side seams? I like that idea because then you know it’s going to stay in place.
I was just browsing through the garden party dresses in the flickr group and saw this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/28232975@N08/14142114886/ I love the sequins on the bands
So many options, I’m afraid I’m going to be paralyzed if I don’t narrow it down. Soon!
10 years ago LINKmcholley1 @mcholley1We just lined the back b/c of the heat. But, yes…that poly is heavy and hot! The sash is held with thread loops at the side seams.
Anything you make will look great!
10 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaFwiw, I think music box might be more comfortable because it’s a little less fitted. The armscyes seem to me a little more open too.
10 years ago LINKKim @kmac0107I would like to sew dresses for my 3 granddaughters ages 5 years, 15 months and 10 months for my daughter’s wedding. I would love any suggestions for patterns and fabric.. She lives in rural Vermont and has a small farm. The wedding will be at her farm (she has a big open field with views at the top of her property), a country wedding, in early fall, the bridesmaid dresses will be short and bright colors, they will wear cowboy boots, she mentioned sunflowers in bouquets.
10 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI love the idea of btightly coloured Tea Party dresses, maybe with a ruffle. This is the inspiration I’m thinking of https://www.flickr.com/photos/26756583@N08/3718531811/ . But it will depend on if the eldest child still fits into size 5 by her chest measurement. And with a LTTS hooded Cape for warmth if needed 🙂
Or a 3/4 sleeve version of the Garden Party dress if you need longer sleeves and the larger size for the 5 year old.
I suspect whatever you choose will look stunning 🙂
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Oh, yes Heidi.
How about bandana for the bodice?
I think gingham is very country.

These outfits incorporate brights and ginghams.
10 years ago LINKmkhs @mkhsI think the Bubble Dress is the sweetest thing ever, and those ages are perfect for it. Maybe echo the colors of the bridesmaids’ dresses, even do some color blocking with different colored skirts and bodices?
