sew + tell: neighborhood sweatshirt with shirt tail hem

Lisa (a member of the Advisors Circle) is back with us today. You’ll remember her Romantic Neighborhood Sweatshirt Tutorial, Weekend Getaway Blouse with Hemstitching, Chai Tee Dress and Tunic, and Heirloom Afternoon Tea Blouse Tutorial. She’s got something new to share. And with that, I’ll hand it over to Lisa.

Liesl + Co. Neighborhood Sweatshirt

Did the fabric work well?

The fabric worked terrific. The knit is soft and cozy with some stretch. The flannel doesn’t have any stretch but there is enough ease in the upper section of the sleeve (but not the lower) that a knit for that section isn’t necessary. See Erica and Camelia’s Neighborhood Sweatshirts for the details.

How did the sewing go?

The Neighborhood Sweatshirt is an instant gratification project! It can whipped up in an hour or two. The pieces quickly go together and the entire project can be completed on a serger (except hemming the shirt tail).

What was the best part?

The end result is a cozy garment that is perfect for the weekend but still has some style! I made this for my twenty-something daughter. She can throw it on with jeans, be cozy and comfortable, and still look put together when she is running errands or just getting together with friends.
