I’m glad to hear it wasn’t just me!
In my second version, I did use a bias strip to finish the sleeve hem and it worked much better. I first trimmed the sleeve so that the hemming would match the 1/4″ seam allowance for the bias binding (instead of the 5/8″ hem the pattern is designed for). Then I used a bias strip and followed the instructions…[Read more]

Has anyone done a cap sleeve similar to the terrace dress on this cartwheel dress? My preteen would prefer a small sleeve (no bare underarms) any tutorial on adding it to the terrace dress. I love the last blog post about it being double sided but we great if I could manage it with some cap sleeves also.

Maggie replied to the topic Retrospective magnetic snaps insertion in the forum oliver + s: school days 7 years ago
Hi @speeedymog! I just installed a magnetic snap in a bag I’m making. The instructions said to cut out a silver dollar sized piece of fusible fleece, thin cotton batting, fleece, felt, etc. to put behind the snap in addition to regular interfacing on the fabric, which you’ve already done. I think it gives the fabric a little extra strength and…[Read more]

Hi @Mima! This isn’t exactly answering your question, but what about using the Girl on the Go dress pattern instead? It looks quite similar in style to the Chai Tee (the sleeves are almost identical, it seems), is already dress length, and comes in teen sizes. You could maybe even add a some width to the shoulders to make the little pleats, like…[Read more]

I’m thinking of lengthening the Chai Tee shirt into a dress for my granddaughters. I may also have to reduce the size as they are between a 12-14 child’s size now. Any tips or advice?

So I’m almost finished making a school days coat in a thick acrylic. Today I finished hand sewing the lining and was ready to do my last step of sewing on the patch toggles when I realised I hadn’t inserted the magnetic snaps on the inside of the facing. D’oh!
So my question is: if I interface a piece of cotton and push the snaps through that…[Read more]

I had the exact same problem. I ended up aggressively clipping into the seam allowance to get it lie smoother, but still never could get it stitched flat at the underarm. There’s about 1/2″ at each underarm/side seam that I simply didn’t sew down. I’m hoping it holds up in the wash. Would love to know if there’s a fix.

Ava started the topic shoulder seam going back?style element in the forum liesl + co: gallery tunic + dress 7 years ago
I usually don’t have any issue in RTW of forward shoulder or even square shoulder but when I made my muslim of the gallery tunic the shoulder line was back about 1/2 inch almost up to inch of the neck line). I know I can make the adjustment but I’m wondering is that a style issue where it sits back some?
Also the mandarin collar (view B) is too…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Band-collar version in the forum liesl + co: all day shirt 7 years ago
Hi @ischyrus Steven. I wonder if it would be as simple as sewing the collar stand without the collar.
That may give more of a Mandarin collar look rather than the image you’ve shown.
That image has the collar band lying very flat and almost looks like the neckline is finished with a bias.
If you use scraps (just cut a neckline and shoulders) you…[Read more] -

The book Sewing for Boys by Shelly Figueroa has a shirt with a collar like this, but there is no front placket, only a front seam (and it is for boys, not grown ups). I think it is a classy look. But finding another pattern with this element may be a good place for you to start in adapting your current shirt pattern. Good luck! Sabrina

I’ve made two shirts for myself using this pattern! I love it!
Now, I was wondering if you would be able to make a version or be able to help me out with making a pattern that has a band-collar rather than the traditional collar. Kind of like what is seen here…[Read more]

Monica replied to the topic Gaping Pockets in the forum liesl + co: city stroll wrap skirt 7 years ago
Hmm. Interesting suggestion… thank you so much for weighing in!!!
The pocket is not stretched, it looks good on a hanger, for example. I do understand what you mean. However, the skirt sits entirely flat if hanging off the body. And, I experimented with basting around the pocket–I wondered if attaching the pocket to the front of the skirt all…[Read more]
